So tired of waiting!

I'm so frustrated, annoyed, upset, scared and numb at the same time and distancing myself from the ones I love! I was diagnosed with a 5cm ER+ PR+ cancer on 11th July. I'd been seen at the clinic on 30th June for mammogram, biopsy and ultrasound scan. Consultant wasn't there and I was told by a Dr on the team that they were worried about my lump and would send me for a ct scan but didn't tell me it was probably cancer even though I "knew" it was! Nor would she give me a reason as to why a ct scan other than it would save time until the consultant is back. There was definitely a language barrier as English was not her first language but I did think I'd get the "we suspect you have cancer" spiel as my mum did at her breast clinic appointment. So being my own worst enemy,  I google why a ct scan would be used and get the whole checking for spread and secondary cancer thing running through my head for the 10 days until I get the results. Getting the results that the cancer is only in one breast and not appearing to have spread to lymph nodes was just complete and utter relief! Then another wait - My consultant then said he was going to send my biopsies for HER2 testing which could take 2-3 weeks. Shouldn't this have been done with the ER PR tests? In the meantime I've had a surgery appointment for 16th August. I know everything's a postcode lottery but I'm sick of waiting and not knowing and really frustrated that some can have tests done straight away or treatment a week after diagnosis while others have to wait for what seems like an eternity (although i do realise eternity feels the same whether its a day, week, month etc in the cancer stakes). I work as a TA in a school and I have most of my time off over these 6 weeks and the weather's lousy and I can't enjoy it my time off so I'm sulking and feeling sorry for myself. I know I'll beat my cancer but it's so hard waiting to actually start the killing! Sorry for the long one and thanks for reading x

  • Hiya big piece of advice is don't use Dr google use this forum or the Macmillan support lines. Dr google seems to bring up alot of American websites and can also scare the c**p out of you.

Hope you get the rest of your results and treatment plan soon.

    Xx

  • Thanks F1 Petrolhead! Yes I definitely stick to trusted sources now. Just needed a rant and know this is a safe place to do just that! How's you're journey going? x

  • Journey going ok. I was diagnosed last October and had lumpectomy in November. Good news was they got it all and no lymph involvement. However oncotype test result recommended chemo and radiotherapy. So I've had five months of chemo every three months and am halfway through 20 sessions of radiotherapy. Also just started hormone tablets. Pretty much sailed through chemo with not too many side effects - main ones being hair loss and constipation. Radiotherapy has also been good as I have been religiously slathering on e45 cream so skin hasn't burnt or been sore.

  • Wow, sounds like a heavy treatment plan and it's great that you've sailed through the chemo and that you're nearly finished the hard stuff. My consultant has heavily suggested that I will have to go through chemo, radio and hormone therapy but won't know for sure until I've had results from my mastectomy on the 16th. I know we're all on individualised treatment plans but what chemo drugs did you have?

  • I had 4 cycles of ec (epirubicin and cyclophosphamide I think) and 3 cycles of docetaxel . Once every three weeks.

  • Thank you! Feels good to be listened to and have my questions answered. Hope everything continues to go well for you xx

  • Hi, sorry to hear u r still waiting results, when I had my mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy, he said then it was his opinion it was a small cancer, fast forward 10 days after I got my results confirming it was grade 3 invasive ductual breast cancer oestrogen positive and her2 positive, I was fortunate to all ready know full results on that, then it's was just the case of waiting for ct and mri scan ecg, and echocardiogram and treatment plan, which was fast moving, from diagnosis to 1st chemo was just under 3 weeks. Finally then had results of other scan after 1st chemo which showed it hasn't spread anywhere else, so just in breast and 2 lymph nodes so staged at 2b.

Treatment plan is chemo every 3 weeks for 6 cycles and then surgery and radiotherapy. 3 cycles of ec and then 3 cycles of docetaxel also with that I will have every 3 weeks for 18 cycles phesgo injections due to her2 positive.

Good luck with your journey x
