Different side effects with anastrazole

Hi. Only on my second pack of hormone tablets but they are a different brand. And I seem to be getting more hot flushes since starting this new brand. Is it a case of different brands having different side effects or that side effects take a time to kick in?

  • Hi, as I understand it, whilst the active ingredient is the same for all brands, the other ingredients that make up the tablet and it's coating are different and (bizarrely) it does seem that many people have different side effects depending on the brand. It might be worth asking your pharmacy for the same brand each time or even asking your GP to specify it.  Best wishes

  • Thanks for confirming what I suspected. Thought I had heard that about the coating causing different effects. I will see what happens next prescription and go to gp if I need to

  • Hi it's so annoying been on anaztrozole for 3 months different make every time  can't get used to a particular brand . Luckily not many side effects on the hot ones but only a few but have already had my menopause

  • Hi

As has been said the coatings on the anastrozole tablets make a huge difference.  I've finished mine now, but because I was given a different brand once I did research into each brand and the coatings.

Accord and Teva are the same coatings and I personally was OK on these brands.  But I was given Consillient Health once and the side effects of aching joints hit me like a truck!

If you see this page, these are the brands that you can get. It shows the price that the NHS pay, so if you find the brand that suits you better and it's cheap enough (ie - the doctors won't want to prescribe an expensive one), then ask your Dr to write it on the prescription slip for you.

If you Google each brand you will be able to find the list of coating ingredients and see which ones are the same as your initial brand - just in case that is ever unavailable.  I struggled to get Accord for a few months during my time of taking them and even went to pharmacies in different towns to find them, but once I did this and found out that Teva had the same coatings, I was able to ask the pharmacy for either brand if one was unavailable.

    Hope this helps.

    Kindest Wishes, Lesley
