Unable To Eat

Hi all!

so I had my last intravenous chemo today. I still have to go back for another type after surgery.
This problem has been going on for a few weeks now. I’m unable to eat food without it firing back out my butt (sorry to be blunt but there’s no dignity during chemo).

I’be spoken to my oncologist about it and she suggested going on the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) but even this isn’t working.

The chemo I was on was a weekly Taxol and I have a Phesgo injection every three weeks.

Has anyone else been on these and had the same problem? If so, did anything help?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi H1991

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are struggling to eat. Have you tried Imodium to help with the Diarrhea?   If not try that and see if it helps, you should be able to get it over the counter.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi H1991

l am starting Taxol next , how did you find the weekly treatments , I just finished my three weekly EC I had diarrhoea on this treatment l took Imodium instant tablets and found these helped.

  • Hi, Has it got any better? I am on my third week of paxitaxel and really struggling with side effects including painful diarrhea in a public loo today. Just no dignity left!! EC made me constipated but appear to have swung the other way now. Following for any tips as I don't want to take immodium. Constipation is a problem for me and makes me bleed.

    Best wishes

  • Make sure you speak to your nurses about your side effects or phone your red card team. Regarding the constipation make sure you take your laxatives. I had the same when I had chemo. Fortunately didn't swing the other way. And I'm glad I had that rather than the other way.

  • I found fasting around chemo really reduced my side effects. I ate 600 calories for 2 days before till 12 hours after the infusion. It’s not for everyone. I also drank lots of water and was careful to eat well in between chemo too to get the right nutrition in. It’s harder on weekly infusions - mine were every other week.
