Hi everyone,

My mum has just being diagnosed with tubular carcinoma and is due for breast conservative surgery in the next couple of weeks.

Anyone with similar diagnosis that wants to share their experience?

What to expect after surgery? How is the recovery?

And also what did/do you find your family members can support you most with?

My mum has always been our rock, but now is scared and I'm trying to stay positive and give her strength but sometimes it is really hard and don't know what to do.

Thank you in advance!

  • Hi. Sorry to hear about your mum and it's understandable you're all concerned.  My recovery from surgery was relatively good, was up and about after a few days and the pain eased quite quickly. Keeping the wound dry, and wearing surgical stockings were probably the most frustrating after efffects.

Your mum will need to take care not to use her arm on the surgery side, so help with cooking is always appreciated I think.

Driving herself will be a problem for a little while too, and te seat belt can be uncomfortable but a small pillow can help with that.

I was encouraged to take gentle exercise, by walking, so maybe offering to accompany your mum on some short walks would be a good idea.

I hope this helps, and best wishes

  • Thanks Irishgirl16

It is reassuring to hear the healing process was quite quick.

I'll keep in mind your advice!

    Best wishes

  • Hello,  hope your Mom is doing ok.  I had DCIS and stage 1 Invasive cancer at 72 years old.  Had 2 lumpectomies and radiation and almost 2 years past diagnosis .  Doing great and feel good .  Hope your Mom does well and it is not easy to go through and I remember it well.  Emotionally I was a wreck for awhile but had to get it together.  This article is excellent and may help you both understand tubular cancer.  Here it is https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK542223/

    Take care
