I've recently had my 5th zoledronic acid infusion and cannot believe how fatigued I am. I had my last one in December and I put the fatigue down to the time of year, but it is unmistakable this time.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? It has been over 2 weeks and hoping I get some of what little energy I had back soon.
Hi, I’ve had four infusions, and the after effects of each one has been different. The first was the flu symptoms that put me to bed for 36 hours, during which I slept almost all of that time. The second one was ok, but I developed swelling and discomfort in one knee for about 6 weeks - to the extent that a doctor (who was examining my legs for something else) homed straight in to it and got out her stethoscope - she didn’t say anything and neither did I. The third one was ok (in the November), but the fourth one did linger a bit. This was in late May. I had a slight headache too. Maybe it coincided with the pollen count - which can make me feel a bit under the weather - but I remember thinking ‘thank goodness just two to go’.
Cloudier thanks for sharing your experience. Mine have also been a bit different each time. The first couple, I didn't notice too much but I was recovering from chemo, so I think I was naturally feeling a bit better as time went on. But then I've had headaches and fatigue. The last two times, the fatigue has been quite extreme. The hormone blockers also make me feel fatigued, but I can still function. With this, I can barely think straight, so need to save all my energy for work! Hopefully it will pass soon.
I'm not sure if I have 1 or 2 to go. They said three years, which would mean 7 infusions.
Hi, sorry to hear about the fatigue. I’m on Anastrazole, and I must admit that I never really know how much that is in the mix too. I know that there have been threads about whether it is 6 or 7 infusions, but a few weeks ago I found my pathology results letter, with the continuing treatment plan. On that, it says ‘Zelondronic Acid - six infusions’. I also saw that I am due to have another DEXA scan in July 2026 - that will be at the five year point of Anastrazole (I’m down for 10 years of that one). I hope you feel better soon x
That's really interesting that your 5th was the same. It has been over 2 weeks for me now but hopefully turning a corner.
