Got an appointment today to see my oncologist it is my first one. They sent me a letter advising me to use public transport as parking at the hospital is very limited.
they also included a letter saying that due to Covid I will not be able to take anyone with me. I had a major breakdown at this news. How ridiculous to advise to use public transport and mix with loads of people then have to attend a reality confusing appointment on your own.
I have also been informed that I will have to wear a mask, this will be very hard for me as I am quite deaf, I use hearing aids but I also lip read. I did not realise that I lip read until people started wearing masks and I realised that I could only hear people that I could see.
I rang the hospital in tears, and they informed me that I could take someone with me if they wore a mask!
why send the letter in the first place if it contains wrong information?
So I will take paper and pen and write everything down as I know that I will not be able to process all the information.
will let you know the treatment plan
That seems crazy - whilst I agree covid isn’t over we have begun to learn to live with it. And then to tell you to take public transport ! I’m glad you managed to contact the hospital and they have agreed you can take someone with you. I don’t know what hospital you go to but at the hospital I go to mask wearing is no longer compulsory. There are a few who do but most are not.
Wishing you all the best for your appointment. Don’t forget to write down any questions you have so they can answer them for you.
Wishing you all the best.

Hi, this seems really quite thoughtless of your hospital, I am really sorry, if it were me, I'd go early in the car and park as there is no way I'd be wanting to take public transport home after an appointment. I'd also take someone with me and deal with that with the receptionist when you arrive, explaining your deafness. I would hope they'd be more supportive in person. Best wishes
Hi, I totally sympathise with you, I have had to have many appointments on my own as I'm sure a lot of ladies on here have, it's difficult because you can never take it all in and so much easier knowing you have someone else with you to concentrate on what is being said and also answer some questions you may have forgotten, which is easily done. I'm glad they have said you can take someone with you, it really does help to have the support there. Our hospitals are mask free too now, it really makes a difference.
I really hope your treatment plan goes well and you don't need chemo. Best of luck with your treatment.
Big hugs. Sue x
I attended my appointment today, the treatment is as expected.
my dx score came back as 28 so chemotherapy is recommended.
my husband attended with me and we didn’t even have to wear masks.
I complained about the COVID letter and the oncologist said to complain in writing as she had some people coming on their own due to this letter.
I will be having chemotherapy every three weeks, six cycles of I don’t know what but they will send me a letter.
After a rest some radiotherapy.
mentioned the bone infusion
Also the tablet beginning with L for 10 years.
I had lobular cancer in both breasts.
oestrogen positive 7/8 and HER2 negative
one lymph node was positive.
might as well write off the rest of this year.
hopefully will be able to join in July chemotherapy starter club.
said about 4 weeks before I start due to them being very busy, this suits me as I have had teeth removed and gums need time to heal.
got a zookeeper for a day Christmas present so am trying to fit this in before I start chemotherapy as it involves touching and feeding and cleaning out animals.
best wishes
That's a lot to take in. How are you feeling about it all? How's your husband coping?, people forget about them don't they.
Make sure you look after yourself and get plenty of rest.
Take care and big hugs
Hi
Your treatment plan sounds similar to mine I finished radiotherapy June last year and am on Letrozole meds for 10 YEARS. I did have more nodes involved so had a clearance as well as a mastectomy. It will be a tough ride but you can do it . I never ever thought I would but it moves along a day at a time. Try to stay positive and when up to it take exercise. I have a dog and by day 3)4 I could do a little walk with her it really helps. Lots of love

It is a lot to take in but I have had a couple of weeks to get used to the idea.
I am very needle phobic so we have decided to have a pick line fitted. That will be an experience for whoever does it.
I have also been told that I will still have to have some injections. Will need lots of diazepam. Doubling the dose of my anxiety tablets next month so hopefully that helps. I will be a zombie.
Going to start hypnotherapy’26.06.23 so hopefully that will help me to control my anxiety as well.
hugs to everyone
Hi Gernan shepherd mum
Glad to hear that you have your treatment plan and that they have given you an idea of when your treatment starts.
Best of luck with it.
Best wishes
