Hi everyone, I am post chemo, 6 rounds of Docitaxal and Carboplatin, have had a lumpectomy and axillary clearance, 5 RT sessions and am 5 rounds into 14 of Kadcyla. My question is about scans. I did ask the breast surgeon if I would be having a ct or mri scan following my diagnosis of invasive ductal carcinoma but she said only if it had spread to 4 or more lymph nodes. Since it was only in 1 of 18 nodes removed I will not be having any scan. What experience have others had, Is this general practice or does this vary in different regions?

Do you mean a body scan to see if it's elsewhere?
I had an mri scan on the breasts only before surgery, but I haven't been told I'll be having any other scan.
I did have micromets in my lymph but I assume because I'm scheduled for chemo they feel that's enough? I don't think it's standard in every authority area to scan on every diagnosis.
I had one positive node, and had 2 different CT scans (upper and lower torso) and a nuclear bone scan. I'm in North London. TBH off have preferred a simple MRI but had no choice as my oncologist wouldn't have proceeded with next treatments without them.

Check out Signatera test which checks for residual disease. Here is the link. Being used in US but not sure if being used in UK.

wow that is a long link. Test can be used for all solid cancers.
Take care and let me know what you think about test.

Hi….I had a CT scan and Nuclear MRI immediately after diagnosis and after biopsies before any treatment started to check for spread…am down in Exeter and was told they follow Royal Marsden protocol for breast cancer. What they don’t do which my oncologist would like is to test the removed tumour again to see what was left after I had chemo first then surgery. I am triple positive so would like to know if changed or what my chemo cocktail did or didn’t kill off.
I also had the same after diagnosis. The chemo (3x EC & 3 Docetaxal) shrunk the lump but there was no difference to the cancer in the lymph nodes. Might be worth asking the question from your results maybe?
LifeslikeThat I am also in Exeter and I only had breast MRI (primarily to size). They did check the removed lump for clear margins. I'm not triple though so maybe that's the difference.
