Hi, I had my first round of Chemo and today is day 3. I tried the cold cap but started developing a headache, I persevered but had to ask them to remove it mid treatment. Since then I’ve had a headache which started just above the eyes for the first two days but now today, day 3, it’s like a full tension headache (but uncomfortable, not overly painful).
I’m blaming the cold-cap and have read this can be normal but I’m after some reassurance from you really as your mind does go into overdrive doesn’t it?
I take my temperature before taking paracetemol and this morning I’ve taken a nurofen migraine instead.
Thanks for reading xx
Good Morning
Am sorry to see that you have just had your first round of chemo and have a headache that is worrying you.
I had chemotherapy last year and also used the cooling cap.
I often had headaches during the chemo treatments- and I think mine were caused by lots of different factors...... the anxiety of having the treatments, the dehydration from sickness, the steroid tablets, other medication I was on. I found it normal to have lots of aches and pains and just feel out of sorts for around a week on each treatment cycle. I also had a achy, uncomfortable feeling when my hair was starting to shed,
I would suggest to put your mind at rest maybe give your support line a quick call, mention the headache and they will be able to give you some reassurance. It is good that you are taking your temperature each morning and you can mention that to them. During my chemo I often rang the helpline number I was given and the nurses were always supportive.
Hope this helps
Jane
Thank you Jane, I’ve read it’s normal but it’s reassuring to see others have been through it too. You come away with a list of side effects but headaches aren’t actually on there so I wasn’t prepared for it. Thanks for replying xx
Hi, sorry you’re feeling like this. I have completed four cycles of chemo (EC) and about to start four of Paclitaxel. I am also cold capping. I had a terrible headache during the first infusion (I was reduced to tears) and for a few days afterwards. I put mine down to the chemo, the cold cap and also perhaps caffeine withdrawal. I still experience a headache during the first 30 minutes of the cold cap going on, then once I’m acclimatised, the brain freeze is more tolerable. Based on my own experience, I would say it has been worth persevering as I’d rather not lose all of my hair, and I do still have quite a lot. It has thinned significantly, but I do not need to wear a wig. I hope you are feeling better soon and have a good outcome.

Hi thats interesting to read, thank you for sharing.
I can't go back to the cold cap now as I took it off after an hour but I’m ok about it. I tried and it wasn’t for me. I have an appt on Thursday for a wig fitting just in case but if it comes to it I’ll have that choice.
Thank you for the advice on the headache thou it’s really reassured me. Xx
