Hello,

I had a my mastectomy and full node clearance 6 weeks ago and the last few days have started getting numbness all the way down my arm and into my little finger and 4th finger.  It has been worse at night but always there and makes actions like sprinkling difficult with my right hand.  I mentioned it in passing when I was speaking tot eh hurse about something else on the phone and now the surgeon wants me in urgently for bone and full body scan in the morning.  I am now wondering why all the fuss and had just thought that the numbness was an extension of the numbness I already had in chest underarm and shoulder area since surgery. Has anyone any similar experiences or know what the scans are looking for as I wasnt told anything?!

  • Impossible to say,  but numbness could be nerve issues from the chemo or surgery? It sounds like they are being thorough.  I had a bone scan a couple of years ago because of shoulder pain which later turned out to be a rotator cuff tear.  Fingers crossed Fingers crossed

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply.  You are right they are being thorough and that can only be a good thing.  Wonder if the scan could show up nerve damage.  It's the bone bit im confused about.

  • At my hospital I had a bone scan and 2 different CT scans after surgery when I'd one of my two sentinel nodes positive (which looked OK in the us). If you've not already had those then it's apparently just protocol.

  • It is good that your team are being thorough. If it’s radiation damage have you considered vit D, melatonin at night and hyperbaric oxygen therapy? I went for treatment at my local ms centre. Apparently it helps with healing - lots of professional rugby and football clubs have their own chambers apparently ….

  • I already had a full lymph node clearance at the same time as my mastectomy so i guess it can't be that  Hopefully will find out more tomorrow. X

  • Hi.  Thanks for this info.  Haven't had my radiation therapy yet but this is good to know for future reference x
