Hello, is there anyone in this group that has been refused surgery.
I was diagnosed last August with secondary breast cancer, which has reached my lymph nodes, lungs, pelvis and under collar bone. Because of this I was refused surgery.
Not much has happened since. I was allergic to the chemo, so was told to stop taking the medication.
Have tried two different hormones, but have just had a second breast scan since August and they have discovered more cancer nodes and the original lump has become larger.
Was told to stop taking all medication for a month and I see my Oncologist on Wednesday.
I have now also Rhumatoid Arthritis which I am taking steroids for which has hurt and brought me down much more than the cancer, but I can't stay on steroids for ever.
Has anyone else gone through non surgery recovery.
Thank you.
I haven't been through this myself but I know someone who had bowel cancer who subsequently had metastases in her liver and lungs. When they told her they weren't going to operate, she said 'no, I d't think so.' She insisted, she's had 3 ops and about to undergo a 4th on her lung. She want going to let them write her off she told them. It's difficult for you. I don't know if that is any help. Xx
Hi, thank you so much for your reply. I am finding it very hard to find anyone that has been refused surgery, so don't know how others respond to the information.
I was so numb, I walked out and said 'thank you!'
I hope your friend is getting on ok x
It's such a shock. Age doesn't come into it. Keep trying to work it out, even at this stage some people carry on for years. How old are you if you don't mind me asking? Xxx
Hi Jackieandelvis, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. My husbands cousin was diagnosed with bowel cancel that has spread to her liver, kidney and stomach lining. They told her they weren’t able to operate. She has since had a second diagnosis at a different hospital and they have added some extra chemo drugs. Whilst I don’t know if they will be able to operate down the line after some chemo perhaps if it shrinks the tumours I would say maybe get a second opinion and see if they could maybe operate after some chemo/ radiotherapy or immunotherapy. It seems so odd that they can’t operate on any of the tumours. It also seems odd that allergic to chemo, they can’t give medication to help combat that or change the type of chemo. Perhaps have another chat with your oncologist or see if you can get a second opinion.
Wishing you all the best.
Hugs from cuffcake x x x x x
Hi, I'm 63 now.
I was diagnosed 5 months after I buried my mum, the doctors just kept saying my symptoms were grief until I had my 2 yearly scan, which showed something "worrying".
Thank you cuffcake. It does all seem so surreal, but you put your life in their hands, thinking they know what they are doing, but I don't seem to be able to get a straight answer. My partner has been to most appointments with me, my daughter came from Australia to Aaron's appointment with me, but I never seem to get an answer because they just don't know!
That's why I was trying to get in touch with someone who this has happened to x
Hi, you might think about giving the lovely team at Macmillan a call to chat this through. You can call them on 0800 808 0000. Best wishes
Hi there
i was due for surgery on two small areas in my breasts back in December 2022 until three scans - ct, mri and pet were done and results showed metastasis in my bones so surgery was cancelled. Since taking hormone inhibitors treatment the lumps have disappeared for now and my quarterly ct scan shows good remission at the moment.
at the time I was so shocked from the realisation that I had breast cancer again and it was incurable that I just said nothing and left. I think I am still in shock tbh and don’t know whether surgery would have been more invasive and not made much difference to the awful outcome I’m facing
I too have ra which was diagnosed in 2020 but recently my ra drug was stopped due to my liver enzymes going up which came from the side effects of ribociclib tablets I’m taking…!
It’s such a rollercoaster ride at times, but I hope that a workable treatment plan has been sorted out for you and you can find a bit of peace from that
take care
