My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer on 13th March.
following a small lump near nipple found in her breast, turns out the small lump is benign but they saw a larger lump behind (she had no idea) which after biopsies has been confirmed as oestrogen positive 1.4cm lump. Indicated a lumpectomy & radiotherapy needed.
however following mammogram and chest MRI scan noticed legion on lung, sent for CT scan, this then showed soft swelling in chest/lung and something suspicious in liver.
we now await a further MRI scan on the chest & liver.
We are still unclear on what we are dealing with but it’s taking too long.
the breast nurses have been very supportive in NHS but waiting for the scans is frustrating. We keep asking to pay private and speed things up but having contacted a couple of private hospitals feedback is it won’t be any quicker?
Is it common that other suspicious legions are picked up in these scans on the rest of the body? and then discounted, or not.
Consultant not giving much away other than the breast plan thus far.
Hello, sorry to hear about your sister. Everyone is different but I was send to check two things after my CT: something in my uterus and a ‘shadow’ elsewhere on my breast. Both turned out clear. The wait is extremely stressful but if possible try not to jump to conclusions before the results are it. Best of luck to your sister
Hi BJMScott
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your sister. Consultants don't like to give away too much before all the results are in so that they can make sure that your sister is getting the best treatment possible treatment for her situation.
Wishing your sister the best of luck with her remaining results.
Best wishes

Yes, it is common. It happened to me, and others on this forum. It was very, very stressful, but I am very glad that they were thorough. They identified what mine was ( non-cancerous) and things moved forward again. But it’s so important that they know everything that they need to, as there are lots of new treatments as well as the existing ones that can target whatever shows in the results. Hang on in there … xx
Hello, I saw my new medical oncologist today and very happy I changed doctors. In fact tomorrow is going to be the start of my 2nd year on Anastrazole.
Since I had invasive cancer in left breast stage 1 he ordered Signatera test. It can detect cancer cells in your body up to 10.5 months before any other signs. Although my tumor was only 3mm it is ER and PR positive 100% and those can come back as a reoccurrence. He told me that he hopes they can do the test on the tumor but it is small so it is up to the lab. Was easy I had my blood drawn and they will send tissue sample to the diagnostic lab. This test can be used on all solid tumors. I have sent a link so you can all learn about this new advanced diagnostic test. It is being done here in the US more and more.
