Secondary Breast Cancer after 12 years

Hello, I am Alana and have been diagnosed with stage 4 secondary breast cancer in my lungs 15 months ago. I am normally a very positive person and have been trying to be so since the diagnosis. At present I am having a real problem not to have a meltdown or two when one of my children come round or we meet for coffee etc.. Any advice how to get over this would be so much appreciated. My children are very very supportive and have been so good to me. I would hate to burden them with my present state of mind. Of course they are fully aware what is going on medically and come with me to my appointments, when I get my 4 weekly injections and Ibrance tablets, for support and comfort.

I have been told that yoga is supposed to be beneficial to the body and soul and hope someone can let me know if the have taken it up and if it did help.

Sending big hugs to you all

Alana

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read how you're feeling at the moment but it's perfectly natural to have down days. There's so much pressure on people with cancer to 'be positive'. Those who say it should try having cancer and being positive all the time!!

I can see that you've joined the secondary breast cancer group and that would be a good place to post as well. If you'd like to do that, clicking on the link I've created would take you straight there where you could copy and paste your post from here into a new post there. You'll then connect directly with others who are in a similar position to yourself.

Take care and be kind to yourself

  • Hi Alana. So sorry to hear about your situation.  I have tried yoga through the cancer care charity Look Good, Feel Better who do zoom sessions monthly for seated snd mat Pilates. If you want to have a try for free before booking anywhere “live”.  Our local cancer support centre offers zoom and live sessions too - it might be worth checking in locally to see what’s available.  The sessions tend to be gentler and the tutors more aware of the limitations our treatment brings.  I think any breath work can help with those feelings and also with sleep.

  • I can vouch for the powers of yoga.  I’ve tried to do daily throughout my treatments.  Even if I feel terrible I do a little. I do youtube videos, these are my favourites.  https://www.youtube.com/c/ShanticentreTrainingSchool  There’s a little something for every everyone on here.  The mental health one is perfect, I’ve been doing that a lot.  The shoulder one too has been great to help regain mobility.   The breath work really helps to ground you and yoga nidra for a great nights sleep.

  • Thank you so very much for your reply. Your kind words have given me a positive boost. It's such a good feeling to know, that on this site one can be honest about the insecurities and doubts which do creep into your mind from time to time.
