Hello all

I’m having a mastectomy on my remaining boob in January and apparently they will be using a vacuum dressing on the wound  I never had this first time around so wondered if anyone had had this following surgery. I’m assuming it’s different from the usual drains.

  • I had this post my double mastectomy on each breast. It is called a pico dressing. It was kept on for a week and removed with the drains. It wasn’t painful (although I’m numb over each breast) and sometimes made a low sucking or humming noise. This was only once in a while and not constant. The actual “pack” attached to the dressing can be clipped to a post of bra when moving. I hope this helps.

  • Hi, I had a mastectomy the week before last and have a Pico 14 dressing on, due to be removed tomorrow. It's been fine tho I did have a issue with the sticky strips peeling back causing the unit to beep a lot but this was fixed with some new sticky strips. Any questions just ask x

  • Yes, I've got one and have had it on for almost ten days (it's coming off tomorrow, I think) It is brilliant as it means you don't have drains or bottles like years ago. The only attachment is a small battery pack that fits in a pocket or loops onto you waistband. It sometimes vibrates in the first 48hours to keep swelling to a minimum and absorb any leakage.

They are apparently very expensive so I was very happy to be given such advanced medication as it was very easy to manage. I just disconnected the battery pack when it ran out after a week. Hope that helps...
