Hello, I'm starting EC chemo in two weeks for three cycles and then TPH for three or four cycles. I  know everyone responds differently but I wondered what experiences others have had in terms of the worst days after chemo, I'm just trying to plan ahead with child care etc.

Any info or tips gratefully appreciated!!

Thank you

  • Hi

I had 3 cycles of EC, each one three weeks apart before I went on to paclitaxel.

I was lucky that I didn't have any really horrible side effects. I found that for about the first 10 days after chemo I just felt generally under the weather, a bit like you feel when you have a cold without the blowing the nose part!

I'd made and frozen meals ahead of time so that they just had to be reheated and my husband took care of the washing and housework. Then I'd wake up one day and feel completely normal which would last for the rest of that cycle.

I hope that you find you tolerate it well too Slight smile

  • Hi latchbrook,

Thank you for your reply. That's a good idea to make some frozen meals in advance and I'll definitely be getting my husband to do all the housework Grin

  • Hello Rainbowrose

I started EC two weeks ago and due my second cycle on Wednesday. The only side effects I had were reflux and feeling.  ' out of sorts ' I was taking anti sickness tablets for three days after chemo. On day five I did feel quite faint in the morning, but I felt ok come the afternoon. My oncologist has now prescribed something to help with the reflux. Since then I've been fine , although with the second cycle due, I'm under no illusion that things may be different.

It's such a rollercoaster of emotions as I was feeling quite good then today I've noticed some of my hair coming out . Even though I expect it , it's still horrible when it starts. I decided not to try the cold cap but have seen in the forum some people having some success with it.

Hopefully you will not have too many side effects.

    Take care

  • Hi Hellybelly,

That's good that you haven't had too many side effects. Hopefully that will continue for you with the rest of your treatment. I've seen a few people on here have had reflux so maybe I'll ask ask that when I go for my first chemo. I'm planning to give the cold cap a try although I've heard that that can be really uncomfortable and give you headaches!

  • I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

I'm slightly annoyed at myself to not giving it ago ( not usually like me ) but the extra  time and not tolerating the cold swayed me. See no evil

    Xx

  • Hello. I had my first chemo last Tuesday a d used the cold cap, which was OK. If you can get through the first 10 mins, then you forget about it.

Been feeling a little out of sorts, but so far so good. Learning to give my body time to heal, so be gentle on yourself.

    Take care.

  • Hi. I've just had 4 cycles of ec and generally didn't have too many side effects. I had constipation most cycles so don't be afraid to use any prescribed laxative if that happens. Been able to work from home about 60 percent of my hours too which has been good for the routine. All the very best.
