Advised to avoid Estrogen

Hi, I finished radiotherapy a week ago and today had a telephone consultation with a radiologist just to check on my progress and to see if I have any concerns.

She advised me not to use any skin care products, shampoos or shower gels that contain Estrogen. She also said to check food for Estrogen also.

As much as I fully appreciate the advice, how do I go about finding these things. I have no idea where to look and no idea what I should be or not be eating. This is just a minefield for me on top of everything else.

Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated Blush

  • OOOh,   that's super, thank you!  Much easier to read - my spreadsheet was a very wide one as I'd researched vitamins in foods and what they did for the body and the ER bit was at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

I too had issues with food - I was like a child and only ate pot noodles, pizzas and chips -cooked in the microwave, never ate breakfast, drank oodles of coffee and didn't eat meat either.  I'd even been referred to the hospital dietician because I ate such rubbish. So, after diagnosis, I read that highly processed foods could be a contributing factor and decided to do this research.  I now (surprisingly!!) eat rather well.  I found this list helped me decide how to eat better and I now actually really enjoy drinking green tea, I put a spoonful of mustard in when I make my gravy which gives it a lovely flavour (for instance). I now really like quite a lot on the above spreadsheet, especially broccoli and I have almonds for breakfast as was told by the dietician that not having any protein in my diet until 6.30pm at night was the worst thing I could be doing. I'd cut down to one cigarette a day, but Covid lockdown-era really didn't help, so I'm not brilliant with this any more, but have managed to keep my diet and my alcohol consumption a lot better

I think in all honesty  that "living your life" is the most important thing to do,as you say. If like me, you had an appalling diet, there was things I could do to improve it, then why not do so? If not, then it's just that the body sometimes produces too much oestrogen and the tablets are there to stop it and having finished your radiotherapy, just carry on living as normally as you can..

Best wishes to all Slight smile Lesley
