Hi all,
Ive been to the Breast Clinic a couple of times in recent months due to breast symptoms (discolouration, slight swelling, slight peau d’orange). First appointment the ultrasound was clear and they said it’ll be to do with my hormones as I’m pregnant. I wasn’t happy with the results so pushed for another referral via my GP and attended again last Wednesday (15th March). I had a punch biopsy but breast surgeon said it didn’t look like cancer but doesn’t know what it is - he said it could be pregnancy related. It’s been over a week and I still haven’t had my results - I was told I’d receive them by a letter stating that it was nothing to worry about (breast surgeon was trying to reassure me I think). I have, however, today received a letter via text inviting me to an appointment at the BC with the same surgeon on 26th April - over 4 weeks away.
I’m worried about the outcome but am I right in thinking of it was cancer I’d be seen to quicker? I’m hoping to receive a letter next week confirming it’s nothing to worry about but I’m just a little confused about how I’ll find out my results. Frustrating that I’d have to wait a month if that’s how I’ll find out
Hiya,
I was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer last September. I has skin dimpling, hot red skin that would come and go and swelling of the breast.
Originally the gp thought it was an abcess but then i got referred to the breast clinic. I had the ultrasound and biopsies at that appointment and the surgeon said they had concerns and would make a plan once the results where back. I know they didn't want to confirm cancer before the results but from the language they used I could tell they knew it was.
I waited 2 weeks, it was the longest 2 weeks of my life mind you, and I think if they suspect cancer they would have you back sooner for your results so they could get things moving quickly.
The fact yours is 4 weeks away I would see as a positive, the waiting is horrendous but based on my experience I think they would have you in much sooner of it was a concern.
Hi,
Thanks so much for you response!
I’m really sorry to hear about your diagnosis - I hope your treatment is going well.
Did they call you to arrange an appointment and then you received your results in person at 2 weeks? This week will be 2 weeks since my biopsy so I’m still hoping to receive a letter with results.
If you don’t mind me asking, did your symptoms progress quickly from the first sign of symptoms to when you received your diagnosis? I’ve had my symptoms for around 3 months and they haven’t gotten worse, sometimes improved. I only ask because I know it’s common for IBC symptoms to progress rapidly.
Hi Danielle,
I'm sorry for the delay in replying I've been recovering from surgery .
At my initial breast clinic appointment they did biopsies and an ultrasound which they reviewed thst day. Based on that they said they would see me in 2 weeks with the results but the Dr told me she was concerned with the presentation of my symptoms and ultrasound. So I had a pretty good idea I had cancer after than appointment. Once they got the biopsies back everything moved at lightening speed to get ct scans and chemo started.
In regards to my symptoms it started as a pink circle to the left of my nipple which would come and go. Then the skin got thicker and dimpled again this would come and go. This happened over a epropd of about 4 weeks. After the 4 weeks it spread across my breast quite quickly and the was constantly pink, very warm to touch, pitted skin and the swelling of the breast.
Have you had any results back yet?
