Hi I don't know if anyone else has been in this situation. I was diagnosed with breast cancer summer 2021 had a mastectomy as lump was rather large on my right side but fortunately no further treatment except for taking tamoxifen. I had an MRI before my surgery and because they found areas of concern in my left boob wanted to do another one in 6 months so had that last March and it was fine, mammogram in July again all good but just had another MRI and have been told they want me to have an ultrasound scan and possibly a biopsy. I haven't been told anything else so obviously now I'm flapping about it thinking oh no not again. Has anyone else been in this situation, as I thought MRIs could see cancer and ultrasounds were something they did when you have found a lump (which is what happened the first time) LOL see I'm now talking like I have it a second time. Any thoughts or advice would be gratefully appreciated.
Hi Benarino no wonder you're in a flap, it's always the uncertainty that's the most concerning. I noticed your post hadn't had any replies yet but unfortunately I am not sure I can answer your question myself. You might want to have a chat with the lovely people at Macmillan, who have a lot more experience in how these early tests work. You can call them on 0808 808 0000 and they'll be happy to help. Best wishes
hI Benarino Yes i am on my second round of tests - had bc on left side 2019 and they spotted change son my right side in 3rd year mammogram in feb 23. Already had one vacuum biopsy that has returned this week as B3 so high risk - been told informally they will want to repeat biopsy but my MDT meeting was today so waiting for the phone to ring right now.
Waiting and the unknown is definitely the worst part of all this
sending hugs and hope you get some answers soon x
Hi ESTA, thanks so much for your reply, did you get your phone call? I have an appointment on Monday to have ultrasound scan and biopsy but as you say the not knowing and waiting is probably the worst, you are in limbo (again) and your imagination can run wild but trying to not think about it too much (could throw up if I did lol) Let me know how it goes for you, sending hugs and positive vibes x
Hello Benarino, Although I have not been in your situation I do understand how rough it must be. I had DCIS in right breast in 9/2021 and if my Surgeon had not ordered bilateral MRI my stage 1 cancer in left breast would not have been found ans not seen on mammogram or ultrasound. It would have been detected later. I was devastated to need 2 lumpectomies and bilateral radiation but I know it would have been very difficult to find it later. I am sending all my hugs and good positive thoughts your way. Hope everything goes well on Monday with your tests.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply Barbara ️
Hi Benarino, I’m so sorry to hear about your situation. It must feel very worrying especially after completing all your treatment to the right side. My situation is different but I have just had biopsy under ultrasound for something picked up on MRI, so thought I would reply.
I was only diagnosed in early March after finding a lump. As my lump was invisible on mammogram, once they found it was cancer, they did an MRI to check for anything else. The MRI showed up another ‘area of interest’ in the same breast, so I have just had a guided biopsy under ultrasound on that. If you haven’t yet had your procedure, I just wanted to reassure you it wasn’t too bad, and they did manage to find what they were looking for. The dr described it as an ‘area of focus’ rather than a lump, and showed me the images from the MRI. It looks flat and close to the chest wall, I can’t feel anything there.
Also, I was told that MRI is very sensitive so it can and does pick up healthy tissue as well as cancer. I’m praying it’s that - and that yours is too.
I hope you got on ok, and are not too stressed with waiting for results. Sending you a hug. Xx
Hi Rosie 12, thanks soo much for your reply. I had my ultrasound and asked what they were looking for as I had no idea, she said MRI had picked up 3mm lump/mass but ultrasound was fine, she said they will monitor it so another MRI in six months. Was soooo relieved but then felt totally battered the next day and just wanted to hide in a corner, as although it was good news I can't park it away as I have a consultant appointment in June, mammogram in July then MRI again in September, I don't want to sound like I'm moaning but it's never ending lol. I had a good cry and spoke to a friend and am now feeling more positive again. How we all stay positive and upbeat is just amazing. Hope all goes well for you, sending hugs and thanks again for your reply x
So glad to hear it worked out for you, and also they will be keeping a close eye and monitoring you. I hope that feels reassuring. Sorry it has upset you so much though, I totally understand. So glad you’ve got a good friend with a listening ear - sounds like just what you needed. Xx
