Docetaxel and pounding heart?

Hi everyone,

im on day 7 since my first chemo. After a few grotty days I was feeling much better. Then last night, I got up off the sofa to go to the kitchen and it felt like my heart was literally going to pound right out of my chest! It’s happened a few times since. It’s a weird and horrible feeling. After doing some research I can see that this can happen with Docetaxel.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how long is it likely to last?

  • Yes I did, I got it quite intermittently, so it might happen after one bit of activity and not another, oddly enough I have covid atm and it just happened to me again after climbing the stairs but I’m on the antivirals they give you so I assume it’s that as I’m long past chemo. Just try and tell yourself it’s the drugs and you’ll be ok in a minute, it is disconcerting. Do mention it to your team next time you’re in though x

  • Hello. The same thing happened to me. The slightest movement gave tachycardia. I think that's because Docetaxel is a very strong drug. After the fifth chemotherapy it caused me very strong muscle pain and other side effects. Just give you encouragement and tell you to be strong and brave because that will pass. God bless you!

  • Thanks, it just came as a surprise! My temp is normal, and my heart rate is 66 bpm, which is fairly low, as is my blood pressure. I will monitor it and let my team know for next time.

  • Yes, I got heart palpitations and alongside the sudden menopause with zoladex injections, I ended up having a few mini panic attacks when on docetaxel as my body felt so out of control.

Waking up with heart palpitations is no fun as it's really difficult to get back to sleep when your heart is banging loudly in your ears and going a a crazy speed
