I posted this last night but it seems to have been deleted.
started Abemaciclib 14 days ago. Made my 2 weekly blood test appointments 2 weeks ago first one due 9.15 this morning. Surgery rang me at 4.18 last night to say they don’t have the form from the hospital so will have to cancel my blood test. I tried ringing the hospital but only got answerphones as they finish at 4. I asked gp surgery if I could delay my appointment til later in the morning while I get in touch with the hospital first thing they said no it’s fully booked and to rebook but not anything til the week after next. Without knowing what my white blood cells are doing I’m considering coming off the drug. I’m so stressed and upset that I’ve not slept all night. My first blood test is messed up and I don’t know what to do. Any advice please ?
Hi Mibby! I’m just wondering if you have a PICC line? The reason I’m asking is I work as a district nurse and we do pre chemo bloods the same day we visit PICC patients to redress their lines. This might be easier for you as it’s done in your own home and usually without the hassle you have had. I’ve done weekly bloods in this manner for many patients over the years. I’m just trying to think of all options for you to relieve this stress you’re having
I looked on my health board website to find out email address for complaints . I had an online appointment for an infected cyst so after sending picture online I was told prescription for antibiotics at reception. When handed to me by receptionist I looked and was suspicious by name it was penicillin. I asked and was told yes. That's when denial started it was on my records ! I knew it was as when I'd needed antibiotics in the past doctors looked at screen and sais " I can see you allergic ". Anaesthetist at hospital asked for follow to pre op as flagged up and they needed to know about allergy.
Hi Mibby, I’m sorry that your doctors surgery is treating you like this, it’s a disgrace. I know it creates more stress but do make a complaint, it’s not something you or any other patient should have to go through. They should be helping you and offering advice or trying to find out the information for you. I don’t know what the ice system is but I am assuming it’s all linked to nhs records so they can get the info but they probably just couldn’t be bothered.
I hope all works out and you get things sorted for your bloods.

That’s so kind of you to think of options for me. Thank you. I don’t have a PICC line as I never had chemo but thanks for the suggestion. I can’t take two years of dealing with an extremely rude receptionist so I’m going to ask if I can have all my bloods done at the hospital. Thank you very much for your support, it really does help to know so many on this thread care. Best wishes. M x
Thank you so much cuffcake. I’m just starting to wind down with a nice cuppa, I’ve never felt so tearful it must be because im unwell. Im normally stronger than this. Hugs back and thanks xxx
I agree, but it's against the NHS mission statement for cancer treatments. They need to acknowledge they should be more proactive for vulnerable people. They do expect people to chase results that don't come back and do the ringing round. My Dexa Scan didn't come back although the scanning people said they had sent it. I got caught in this loop. 4 phone calls later I told them the fault was at their end and they should be following this up. I told them it was bad practice. I did have osteoporosis that needed treating. I know some wouldn't keep going Luke I did. Faults in the system. By the way a formal complaint doesn't get in the way of them helping you. It's dealt with separately but agree this isn't the time.
