Hi, I had a lumpectomy and lymph node removal on the 17th January. I got the results today and I have triple negative breast cancer and they didn’t get a clear margin with the lumpectomy and. 1 lymph node also tested positive. I’m now going to be having chemotherapy followed my a mastectomy and radiotherapy. I’m only 40 and would love some advice xx
Hi, sorry you have had this news. I also have triple negative bc and had a mastectomy last August, followed by chemotherapy, which I am just coming to the end of.
There is a lot of support out there, both within this community and from other places. I would recommend talking to your breast care nurse, and any local support groups. There is also help to keep your spirits up, such as “Look good, feel better” who have lots of resources, both online and face to face. I went along to one of their make up sessions, which was brilliant, and gave me confidence to draw on eye brows that look normal!
keep talking to people about how you are doing, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. We are all in a similar boat, and are here for each other.
I hope it all goes well x
Hello, I’m really sorry to hear this. I was diagnosed with TNBC early last year, I had a mastectomy followed by chemo and radiotherapy. It’s a long journey, but I found just dealing with it bit by bit helped pull me through and then realising that you’re stronger than you think. My hair is now growing back and I’m hopefully having reconstruction. I wish you well, there are so many of us affected by this, we can draw strength from each other, take care & best wishes x
Thank you both for your advice. I will definitely speak to people about how I’m feeling and have a look at some groups. It just feels like such a lot to take in at the moment as my consultant thought I had DCIS to start with and then every time I’ve had an appointment I’ve been told it’s something else. At least I now have an exact diagnosis and can start preparing for what’s ahead.
Take Care xx
Hello Sj82, I hope your treatment goes well and I can only imagine at 40 years old it can feel overwhelming. I know that so much research has been done on triple negative and treatments are advancing all the time. This link is excellent and reputable too and you will learn so much and should make you feel more in control. Here it is https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8905549/
It is long but you can read at your leisure. Take care.
