Hi after having diep flap surgery March 2022 . 12 rounds of chemo then 5 radiotherapy sessions . I have been left with a rock hard breast and extreme nerve pain and damage. Has anybody had similar reactions as l am mentally drained now . After trying everything for 6 months they have now prescribed me pregablin which l tried to avoid . They have not helped and the only response l get its caused by radiotherapy. Thanks Olive
Hi Olive. It seems you're having a pretty rough ride, and I feel for you.. I've not been down that road - reconstruction and so on - so I can't tell you what might happen, but I don't want you to think you're crying out into the void. There are lots of good people here and someone better informed may be along in a while with some helpful words for you. Hang in there.
Hi Olive
I found that my team weren’t as good at side-effects not directly related to cancer. I note that you say you have a rock hard breast. That sounds like radiation induced fibrosis which I have experienced. It can be helped by specialist physiotherapists that deal with side effects of cancer. There is a lot of advice on UT
YouTube. I like The Breast Cancer Physio. She has loads of helpful videos. I’ve managed to get my boob back to something like normal although it’s much firmer than pre RT. More like what it was in my 20s. It’s not sore now. I’m not sure if your nerve pain is related to fibrosis or not but my oncology team were completely clueless and didn’t even mention physiotherapy as something to look into so don’t know if you’ve already tried that? If not I’d say worth doing if only for the rock hard boob?
love from the coffee fiend xx
Yes she is great. Watched her on YouTube before I had radiation. I asked my radiaton oncologist on my last radiation treatment about doing breast massage and he did tell me that 3 weeks after I was finished I could begin. He kind of gave me a quick lesson but I went on YouTube and found a great video. I have been faithful doing it daily and will continue until mid May as that is my 1 year date when I started massage. So important to ask questions as things can be left out once our treatment is done. Take care.
