From Letrazole to Anastrazole

Hi, I was put on Letrazole after diagnosis back in 2021.  On one of my fairly recent oncology appointments I happed to mention that I felt stiffness (I had been sitting enjoying lunch with a friend).  On standing I struggled to “get going”.  My oncologist said “oh that will be the Letrazole …. I can switch you to Anastrazole”.  Really, after all this stiffness?  Anyway job done and remarkably I’m finding it much better.  I mean how are we supposed to monitor ourselves?  How do we know what effects to expect?  I do read the “leaflets” but they simply cover every scenario.  Incidentally, after 5 months of chemo, my oncologist said I could go back on the Letrazole but no-one had told me to stop it for chemo … if they did I would have … he raised his eyebrows and said “well that may have made things more difficult for you to manage”.  Really???? J xx

  • That is infuriating, I wonder if I should ask for Anasterazole rather than Letrozole. Cost is usually the prescribing motivation. I already have dodgy knees. Who prescribed it and surely the Oncologist is the one who should have told you to stop it during chemo? X

  • Sabrina22. If my oncologist told me to stop the Letrazole for chemo then I must have missed it!  When you go through all of this sometimes the brain fog takes over.  I would have stopped it if it had registered!!! As it turns out I had the worst neuropathy ever … I guess the oncologist thought I had stopped.  Anyway I definitely feel better with Anastrazole … he said some people do.   I would be interested to hear back from you if you make the switch.  j xx

  • I think he or she forgot to say it is what I meant. I am really sensitive to these things having been burnt last year. An error on a letter led to my son having a prescribing error of his Epilepsy meds. I won't say any more but it could have done him serious harm. I will find out what I'm going to get next week.  X

  • Sabrina22.  I totally understand!  I hope you get something which you can manage.  Think I was on Letrazole for a year before switching.  Regards x
