Hi there,

I’m 63 and 1 year out from stage 1 BC (3 MMI mixed ductal/lobular) picked up on screening. Thought to be DCIS initially then the invasive cancer showed up on histology after a wide local excision. SLNB clear and had radiotherapy and tamoxifen( my choice over aromatase inhibitors as my cholesterol is high). So I’ve been recalled for ether tests and consultation at the breast clinic following my 1 year surveillance mammogram. Very anxious about recurrence. Has anyone had experience of what they describe as the 2 stage surveillance process? Trying to stay positive but feels like ‘here we go again’ for another year of tests and treatments. Thanks

  • I'm 7 years down the line - read my profile.  I had to have biopsy on "hood" breast a couple of years in as something showed up on my annual mammogram check.  Turned out to be a bruise but they repeated mammogram after biopsy results to be 100%.  Told they double check previously treated patients.  Then when I went back into routine screening year 6 I had the dreaded recall letter. 3 weeks of worrying waiting for recall appointment and they repeated mammogram on one side as they needed magnified imagines to check stability if breast calcifications.  They were checking to original screen recall in 2015 ad they were magnified too.  Again told they extra careful with old BC patients and my calcification were stable.

  • Hi, I don’t know what a two stage process is, unless I’ve heard it being called something else. However, I have replied as I also had a mixed ductal/lobular tumour (mine was 32mm), and aim on anastrazole. I don’t think there are many of us.

  • Thanks Grogg, I will def read your profile and I guess it’s reassuring that they’re extra careful in following up anything unusual

  • Thanks Cloudier, yes we are a rarified group. Hope you are doing okay
