Hi I'm 43 and I had a ultrasound and mammogram and a biospy and was told they found DCIS intermediate and high. I had another ultrasound and biospy and a MRI scan waiting for results my appointment is next week. I also had another appointment for another ultrasound for the following week. Haven't been told of treatment or what happens next yet. but not sure why I'm having another ultrasound.
Can you ask why you have another appt for an ultrasound? I found that communication,, including reasons for appointments, is really poor if you are being treated by the NHS. It helps if you understand what they are doing and why, but try not to extrapolate too much - it took a couple of months of tests for me before it was clear what the treatment plan was. Good luck.
Thank you. my first appointment with consultant after my first biospy was Nov. I do have an appointment before the ultrasound with the consultant so will know then. Waiting is hard as you think it's all things. I do have a number for his secretary and a number for a breast nurse but wasn't sure if they would tell me anything. Thank you.
Hi Mezza, the breast nurse team was very good at answering questions for me (and I had many). I had to have ultrasound too because one of the DCIS was too near the skin and not clearly visible mammogram. They might also be checking that they can see the marker that was placed during the biopsy. If you need surgery, they will know exactly where to go. I had surgery yesterday mine, they were 2 sites and it all went well. But do contact the breast nurse team, sometimes you have to leave message but they will reply. I found them very supportive.
Thank you for your reply. Glad it went well. My first mammogram and ultrasound was Nov when they found something and I had my biospy. I went back a few weeks later to be told it was dcis was told I need another ultrasound and mri before they can me me what treatment i needed. i had a second biopsy in dec i had a marker both times and had my mri. got appointment next week with consultant. I haven't heard from breast nurse but will give her a call. I spoke to consultants secretary yesterday but she couldn't find out why I need another ultrasound she said wait and see at appointment next week. I feel very much in limbo and Google just scares me. when the consultant said it was pree cancer I wasn't too worried but looking into it it's petrifying. I know it's the same feeling for all of us.
I totally understand, I was diagnosed in early November. My DCIS was intermediate too. If you want more info, I found breast cancer now was informative in a good way. DCIS is stage 0 cancer, so very very early stage. Make a list of questions for your appointment, it will help. It s a lot to take in. My surgery was Wide Local Excision which sounded bad when he told me, but it is actually not as bad as it sounds. I have some discomfort but not real pains, paracetamol is enough to control it… I m happy to talk more if it helps you. I know what you are going through x
n May 2015 age 51 I was recalled from my first rountine screening mammogram for 2 areas of calcification (10mm & 5mm). I was diagnosed with intermediate DCIS in the 10mm area only. The smaller area was benign. I had a WLE in July and 15 sessions of radiotherapy in September. 11mm high grade DCIS was final diagnosis after surgery
Mow over 7 years on I remain vigilant but signed off by BC unit
Hello mezza, I totally understand as it is a lot to take in. I was diagnosed in September 2021 with DCIS intermediate grade 2. DCIS is stage 0 which means it is still in the duct and has not broke free so no worry about lymph node involvement or spreading from the breast from DCIS. Was found as microcalcifications on mammogram and ultrasound was negative to both breasts. Did find something on MRI on left breast and it was stage 1 invasive cancer. Had lumpectomies on both breasts and then 3weeks radiation to both and an extra boost of 5 to right. Long story so won’t go into it. For the DCIS surgery had to have a Savi scout marker put in as the marker from biopsy was not visible. I do remember so many tests that I never thought it would end. But it did and I feel great. The lumpectomy surgeries were fine and I only took one pill the night of the surgery as wasn’t sure how I would feel. Didn’t need anything else. I am small breasted so did not need a bra for support either. Healed well too. Everyone is different so just go by how you feel and you will be fine. I was 72 when I had first lumpectomy and 73 for the other side.
sent you a link that really helped me to understand DCIS more as so much confusion. Here it is and take care https://amp.cancer.org/cancer/breast-cancer/about/types-of-breast-cancer/dcis.html
