Good morning,

I am looking for people's experiences from diagnosis to treatment.

I was diagnosed with Tnbc on 8th Dec 23, on the day of diagnosis I was advised my plan would be chemo, lumpectomy and then radiotherapy. Since diagnosis I have had no MRI or CT but have had an appointment come through for oncology for 9th Jan 23.

Please can anyone advise of they have had a similar experience or waiting time. I am so anxious about having no tests and I am sire I was told I woukd need these before seeing oncology? Did anyone else meet with oncology without having tests before?

Apologies if this is not the right place to ask but my anxiety is through the roof xxc

  • The way mine happened was after referral by my GP I was seen in breast clinic for mammogram and as something showed up, they did scan. Radiologist did a biopsy on suspicious area.Had my results a week later. Following results meeting I was booked in for surgery three weeks later but had various tests in between. It might be because it is over Christmas but I am sure everything is under control. All of us feel so sressed waiting for appointments and tests. You never really relax until you get your cancer removed and time seems to move so slowly. Once you are in the system you are very well looked after.  As you will be having chemo first it is not as straight forward as mine but I am certain come Monday you will feel more reassured. Let us know how your meeting goes and although I know it won’t stop you worrying, try and keep yourself busy. Take care.

  • Hi

I’ve put my experience in my profile. I was diagnosed on 18th Nov 2022 & am starting neoadjuvant tchp chemo on Monday, so feeling very nervous but also keen to get something in my body to attack the tumour. The wait has been a long & anxious one.

I think everyone’s treatment is so bespoke to their own particular diagnosis so whilst I have had a CT scan & MRI, which I was grateful for, there are lots of other ladies who have not because of the specifics of their diagnosis.

Your anxiety is completely understandable & I would think totally normal. Have you found your breast nurse helpful? Mine was very happy to explain process & reasons for decisions which was reassuring. I hope also this forum will help you, & there is facility for asking a macmillan nurse general questions.

I hope your meeting on 9th goes well xx

  • Thank you Evajean. I appreciate your response and reassurance.

I think my anxiety and overthinking has got the better of me, it's comforting to talk to people on a similar journey.

    Thank you xx

  • Good luck for Monday Sale Bee. I can relate to the long anxious wait to start your treatment, i hope everything goes well for you.

I haven't actually spoke to my breast nurse since diagnosis, however I do always get a call back from one of the breast nurses but this is where I think I have received mixed information on what I should be expecting and when. I am going to call her on Monday and hopefully resolve any confusion before I meet with the oncology team.

All the best for Monday x

  • Thank you Blush & I hope the breast nurse can answer your questions & reassure you as to the reasons for your specific plan of treatment & whether further tests are needed. You are not alone Kissing heart

  • Not at all. I was a wreck between biopsy and results, then between results and surgery. My brain went into overdrive. What you are feeling is just perfectly normal.  Rest asured your team are experts in their field and will look after you really well. Xx
