Letrozole - No Accord

Minor panic today . My very helpful pharmacy said Accord no longer available and only brand that can be ordered is Cipla. Rang around and Boots had some so I’m ok . My pharmacist has no idea why only Cipla can be ordered. Hopefully it’s a temporary problem but I suspect not . Just seen that others have had their brand changed - to Accord! So if you’re on Cipla  you will be ok but otherwise may have to shop around .

  • Hi Moppers thank you for sharing this. This issue is one that we are all too familiar with about Letrozole and brands etc .

  • Yes  re supply issues . However , in the 2 years I’ve been taking Letrozole there has never been only one brand that can be ordered. I hope it’s a supply issue rather than a decision to only offer Cipla. I have taken Cipla and it wasn’t for me. Once stocks of Accord run out it will be tricky.

  • Hi there is accord the best brand for letrozole I'm finding I've put on weight and my whole body is stiff and aching xx

  • Hi Fiona. It would seem that everyone reacts differently to brands of letrozole.  The problem i find is that the brands keep changing so as you get used to taking one brand and the side effects settle down, then suddenly the next issue is a different brand.   My first prescription was Sun Pharma (nausea but settled) I had this for two issues. The next two issues were Accord and these really suited me. Then came a brand called Crescent and oh my word did these not suit me, they gave me dreadful night sweats and aching hips. I asked my pharmacist for accord but they couldn’t get them so I had to have a brand called Bristol, these weren’t too bad but caused nausea.  My pharmacist had just managed to get two issues of accord and she’s going to save them for me and will keep trying for more.
There is an extreme difficulty in pharmacies obtaining particular brands of Letrozole and I’ve heard that some have been unable to get any at all for a while.
If we could stick to one brand I reckon we’d all get on much better with taking Letrozole.
I hope you can manage with the ever changing brands. Good luck and best wishes. Xx

  • Ahh bless you for coming back it's a blinking nightmare honestly these boobs !!!I told them to take them off no need for a bra then .having put weight on too around my middle not sure it's tabs or a chemo belly all I want to do is get back to how I was good luck with your journey too xx

  • I'm not in the medical field, however we all seem to learn from what we put through. ....

I believe it goes something like this.... pharmacist 'orders' letrozole and they are sent 'whatever' brand is in (and cheaper) at the stockist. ..

You can ask your Doctor to put your 'preferred brand' on you prescription ..... and the pharmacists 'have to order this brand for you' - if there stockist doesn't stock then take prescription to another chemist/pharmacy - even phone around to see what they have in stock or if that chemist/pharmacy will order your brand in for you.

I was given a 'parallel import' - this is brand imported into UK - but should be the same (just cheaper for stockists)  ..... with this type it depended on which country had supplied the tablets - I had varying side effects some that literally came on over night, with this I think we have to be our own advocate to what suits.

I believe Accord is the same as the original brand Fermara - and most ladies tolerate this really well.
I believe Boots the Chemist was a goods supplier of Accord - not sure if this is still the same and they would phone and order this brand if not in.

I have heard of many ladies have a lot of side effects fro the Cipla brand - mainly do to the Fillers/E number colourings used....
This said, what suits one lady might not suit another - so there is a lot of trial to see how each responds.

Hope message makes sense as it might be a big 'all over the place' aright xxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
