I've had chemo, surgery and radiotherapy. Margins were clear. Now I've been recommended MORE chemo tablets. The side effects look awful but what should I do ?
I was told there was a possibility of chemo tablets after surgery (I had chemo, lumpectomy and rads) and my face fell! I was told they are far easier than the IV chemo.
I was always going to have whatever was thrown at me so would have taken them if offered. In the end, my tumour turned out to be grade 1 and they didn't think I needed them.
Hi Caren
Sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer. While everybody reacts differently to chemo my experience of capecitabine wasn't at all bad. I didn't get any of the side effects that are mentioned. While I can't tell you what to do, you could start to take the tablets and if you find that you any of the side effects and they become too much for you you can always step taking them.
Wishing you the best of luck with capecitabine if you do decide to take them.
Best wishes

Hi
Looks like what I've had! Chemo, single mastectomy then radio. I was told at my appointment after I had surgery that I would need more chemo and to be honest I didn't hear anything they said after that as it wasn't part of the original plan!! At this point I wasn't told which 'kind' of chemo it would be and I had cold capped and been very lucky with the results and just the thought or having to do it again was disappointing! I had 9 nodes removed and 6 were clear but all I could think about was my hair and the delay on having reconstruction. Anyway, it turned out to be 8 cycles of capecitabine and today started my 2nd cycle and so far it's been nothing like IV chemo (EC x3 & Docetaxal x3). I have felt a little sick when I take the morning ones but not enough to have to take medication, in fact the worst bit is remembering to take them! Apparently, although I had clear margins it's to get rid of any floaty bits should there be any!?!
