I started tamoxifen a month ago and Zoladex about 2 weeks before that. At my last Zoladex injection, just over a week ago, my blood pressure was high. It has never, even been high before. They told me to monitor my blood pressure (how the heck do I do that?!)
I am now having regular headaches and over the weekend pain in the left side of my chest that feels like my heart is racing (I thought it was heartburn but I hadn’t really eaten).
Has anyone else had these sorts of side effects or do I need to go and get checked out?
thanks in advance
Well if it was me I would phone my surgery and ask if practice nurse could just check BP/heart rate.We have had a BP monitor at home for quite a few years as my hubby has high BP. We also bought oximeter during covid which is useful not just to check oxygen levels but it tells you your heart rate. Our medical centre has a BP machine in the entrance hall that anyone can use and some chemists offer this too. Hope you get it sorted.
Hello time traveller, you can buy a home blood pressure monitoring machine. Not expensive but need to check to see about accuracy on research.
Side effects are a real pain. Hope you get to feel better.
I had high blood pressure every time I went to see any doctors associated with my breast cancer but am doing fine now. It was awful. Yet when I checked it at home it was normal.
Did you check your pulse when you felt it was racing?
Take care.

@evajean @hopeful Barb thank you both. I’ve ordered a home blood pressure kit so I can decide if I need to see someone once I know what I’m dealing with. Thanks for the advice.
In the UK this is known as white coat syndrome. My husband suffers with this when having BP taken at surgery.

Here too. It was so strange because it only happened when I saw the docs for bread cancer. Otherwise normal.
I don’t blame your hubby for being nervous before any surgery.

Any idea if 160/100 is worryingly high or just high? I’m probably fitter and healthier then pre cancer diagnosis and my Bp has been fine through all my surgeries. Conscious that my head ache is becoming more constant which is a little worrying.
Yes that is quite high.and needs to be checked especially if you are young. My blood pressure is elevated since cancer treatment. This may or may not be a coincidence. I don't know but my GP has put me on further BP medication and I see a health assistant to check it. I also have a home monitor. Mine was 160/90 and is now after medication treatment about 140/90. I am early 70s.. Prior to cancer it was 128/80.
160/100 is definitely high but anxiety has such an effect on this. But because you’ve said about your heart racing, heartburn and headaches it’s definitely worth while getting your Gp to look over you tomorrow. You can never be too careful.
