Hello all,

Does anyone know where I can buy R2 lotion for post-radiotherapy burns? I've tried practically everywhere online with no luck. I'd be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction.

  • Your radiotherapy should be able to issue it.  It wasn't used when I had radiotherapy so aside from E45 cream & aloe Vera gel my BCN gave me flamazine for broken skin under breast.  I used panty liners between bra top and under breast to protect skin too x

  • Hi I was prescribed Flamigel RT by the radiotherapy department when I had bad skin reaction/burns.

    Hope this helps

    Best wishes x

  • Hi Florens welcome to the forum. These gels are not on prescription to my knowledge and as far as i can remember people had to order these online and they were expensive. Do you have radiotherapy burns at the moment or is this preventative for you?  If you have burns at the moment your Practice Nurse should be able to sort you out with the right creams and dressings for you as mine did for me.

Remember you wont be able to use this until after the radiotherapy session and you have to make sure that your skin is clear of any creams at each radiotherapy session as thee may not be able to give you this if your skin isnt clear and they will have to make sure it is removed before treatments. Hope that makes sense? Aloe vera gel is as good as anything.

  • Hi

Back in July 2020 I bought the R1/R2 gels directly from Water-Jel in the UK but that website has since disappeared and like you, I can’t find anywhere else to purchase.  It’s a shame as I found both products excellent and had no skin issues during my radiotherapy.

I have some R1 sachets left but just checked the use by date and it’s July 2022, otherwise I’d have been happy to pass them on!

Your radiotherapy department should be able to recommend other products.  The department I went to had never heard of Water-Jel but recommended 100% aloe vera gel for directly after treatment to cool the area, followed by Aveeno moisturiser as it has no parabens and is free of sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS).

Wishing you the best of luck for your treatment.

  • Thanks to all of you and Loffie, that was a very kind thought. I'm actually looking for my mum who had radiotherapy back in June/July 2021 but is suffering from late radiotherapy burns. Unfortunately, the BCNs haven't recommended anything really. However, because of this wonderful website I asked the GP for Flamigel which my mum says is very soothing. We used the Aloe Vera Gel beforehand (again, from advice from this website). Thank you all for your kind comments and I wish you all the very best of luck.
