Hi all hope you are all ok out there tonight a question to any of you out there that may be able to help I had a lumpectomy in June and finished radio therapy in September in the last few weeks where the void was where the tumour was removed it seems to be filling out and a bit lumpy when I stretch my arm it feels tight across that bit of my breast has anyone had any similar symptoms

thanks

  • Hello Writer Jo, Had bilateral lumpectomies and radiation to both my little breasts.  My radiation oncologist had me start breast massage 3 weeks post radiation and I think it helped me a lot.  I had been having those zinger type pains during radiation and did not want to have that anymore.  So I started breast massage and voila no more zinger pains at all.  Don’t know what happened but it was good.  I was advised to do the massage for 6 months.  I am at that point now but think I will keep going.  I also stretch so I don’t tighten up.  I do have a little tightness in some areas but keep working on it.  I don’t know what you have but you can call breast cancer nurse to get opinion.  If you need video how to do breast massage I can send to you.  My skin looks great too with all that massaging cream.

  • Hi Barbara thank you so much for replying I know in my logical head that it’s probably the void being filled by tissue but you know how it goes you worry about every little thing in myself I feel very positive and fine even though I’ve been on the dreaded astrazole it’s been 8 weeks since I finished the radio therapy same as you felt but I think that I just worry as I’m afraid they don’t really tell you what to expect after the op and treatment going back for my review at the end of this month so I’ll raise it then

yes if you could send me that massage link that would be brilliant keep in touch I hope everything remains good with you xx thank you xx

  • Hi Writer Jo,  here is the link for breast massage:

I totally understand what you mean about the worrying.  It can really weigh on our nerves.  I had my first mammogram in August and saw Breast surgeon too.  All was well so that is a relief.  I know that I will be a little apprehensive every year as surgeon told me I should have annual mammogram until I am too ill or not expected to live more than 5 years.  I am 73 but in good shape.  My surgeon is so wonderful and was my last visit as he has retired from doing surgery.
I have been on Anastrazole for 6 months now and my side effects are more of nuisances.  Severe dry mouth at night,  hair thinning(ugh), dry skin but otherwise ok.  I was dreading taking it too but I know it is important.
Good luck and massage away.  Really helped me.  I am also going to have a manual lymph massage done again this week.  It is good for the lymph system as it gets disturbed with surgery and radiation.  Feels good too.
Take care snd good luck with your visit.  Hope all goes super smoothly.

  • Thank you so much Barbara yes the Anastrazole is a bit of a pain but necessary not sure if there is a Lidl near you but one of my friends is a homeopath and suggested taking turmeric shots they are really good for the side effects and you can buy orange ginger and turmeric shots in there they are 0.99 P and they really have made a difference to my side effects no harm giving them a try Barbara

That  sounds wonderful enjoy and I’ll let you know how I get on

  • Hi Writer Jo,  I live in Florida but will check out my local health food store about the turmeric shots and others too.  Should be able to get it.  When you watch the breast massage video they mention selenium and rather than take a supplement I take 2 Brazil nuts everyday.  Don’t need more than that.
It is our responsibility to take care of ourselves as the doctors have done their best and now it is up to us to keep ourselves strong.
There is a great aTed talks video on YouTube with Dr Li.  Fantastic as he talks about the science behind importance of foods.  He has impressive bio and has helped develop cancer drugs too.  Love his book too, called Eat to beat disease.  Excellent.  Have a copy to breast surgeon as nutrition is an essential part of our overall health too.
Take care snd thanks for sharing.
