Hi,
I was diagnosed with stage 1, grade 1 breast cancer on 03.10.22. I have since had various biopsies, MRI, and US as there were other areas they wanted to investigate. It seems that there is another area of cancer in the same breast. However, when I called my BCN on Friday, I was given a very vague overview with that it was HER2-, bit they were waiting on the ER/PR results. Something from the call instinctively told me that they had the results but didn't want to tell me. They just told me to come on Monfay and bring someone.
In my original meeting, the surgeon was very positive with 'this is treatable', 'you have found it early', and 'it's not aggressive, we would expect it to be more aggressive in a younger woman'. I'm 36.
The original tumour is 20mm, ER/PR positive, and HER2-. Has anyone had 2 areas of cancer in the same breast that were different? If so, how was it treated please?
Thank you
Hi TonyS
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. While I didn’t have the same type of breast cancer that you had I thought I’d reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion as you haven’t had any replies yet.
Wishing the best of luck with your appointment on Monday.
Best wishes

Hi Tonis
yes I have had two different cancers in same breast, diagnosed in august with incase ductal er receptor stage 1 grade 3 approx 40mm, had skin saving and nipple saving mastectomy surgery then they found another cancer a DCIS grade 3, I’m going in Tuesday to have rest of breast taken away then few weeks later will start chemo for 4 half months after oncotype test came back high.
best wishes on Monday let me know how you get on x
Hi Robynwillow,
Thanks for coming back to me. I also have DCIS with IDC grade 1, stage 1, er/pr +, HER2- in the original lump. In the second area, they were still waiting for the results fully but just said it was cancer. I was panicking that they were going to say it was completely different. Was yours the same cancer in 2 different areas?
How are you feeling? X
Hi
yes I was diagnosed and had op in May for two small tumors 4mm and 11mm. IDC GRADE 1 stage 1. When I got histology the second one was not IDC it was called tubular but it was still down as grade 1 stage 1. I had a lumpectomy and 5 rounds of radium
hope you get good results today. X
Hi Army,
Thank you for coming back to me. I'm sorry you had 2 different ones. Did it change your treatment at all? I was told a lumpectomy then radio all been well. However, I'm fully expecting today might be a mastectomy and chemo.
Hoping this afternoon will bring some clarity and calm me a little.
X
No it didn’t change mine at all. I was told at the start I had two but they said it was IDC for both. After op I was told the second one was tubular. But it remained the same grade and stage on both graced 1 stage 1. Lumpectomy and 5 rounds of radium. Tamoxifen for 5-10 years I have my 6 month check up next month
your results stay good too
x
Hello.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Hopefully you have some clearer news at your appointment today, but the comments from your surgeon sound very positive.
I had an invasive ductal cancer with lobular components which measured approximately 20mm, but surrounded with DCIS which made the tumour approx. 50mm in total. All was removed with margins by a lumpectomy (the first time I've been grateful for large boobs!) I was told at the time of diagnosis that it was all treatable and - so far, fingers crossed - that has been the case.
I'm now on tamoxifen for 5-10 years and have lost quite a bit of weight due to the nausea at the start/nerves/healthier lifestyle. Boobs are now quite different in size, but the breast cancer nurses have said I could have a reduction on the healthy side if needs be.
I just wanted you to know that it does get better and that there are lots of resources to call upon.
Xx
Thanks Army. I'm hoping this is the same for me too and the meeting today is just to tell me there's more of the same. The waiting is torture!
I'm supposed to be having a lumpectomy on Thursday. However, the discovery of new cancer has now made me think they will change the plan. It just feel so sad. I have 3 children (7,3,2) and I'm moving house next month. All this has just halted everything until I get the results and they tell me what they can/can't do.
I really appriciate you coming back to me. It reassures me it will get better. I hope your check up goes well next month. X
