After being diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma grade 3 that was 40mm I had a skin saving nipple saving mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, the next day after physio I felt unwell and had to go back to surgery I had rupture and a arterial bleed, the implant had to come out and an expander put in ( the week before all this is ended up in hospital with a kidney stone and went to theatre to have that sorted)
I have just had my results from the surgery and another 3cm invasive grade 3 cancer was found, I’m now going to have to have another surgery to remove the entire breast with no option of reconstruction and waiting to find out if the need of chemo will follow.
the waiting for test results is excruciating all the time, any one else had a similar experience to me?
Hi Robynwillow
Really sorry to hear about your multiple surgeries. It is devasting when you have to keep going back for more surgeries. I haven't had a mastectomy but I have had 3 lumpectomies and full lymph node clearance so I really know how you are feeling. It wasn't until my 3rd lumpectomy which followed chemo that they managed to get a clear margin. Waiting for the results in between the surgeries was a nightmare and I spent most of the time with anxiety. However, it all worked out in the end following the 3rd as the clear margin happened. What a relief. You will get there and somehow you will find the strength to do so. I actually wish that I had opted for a mastectomy so I didn't have to go through all of that but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I hope that you are ok x

Eva Jean, thanks for your reply, hopefully I’ll get there in the end x
Jane, thank you for your reply, nice to know I’m not alone and fingers crossed it’s third time lucky x
I can relate to your experience as I had two rounds of major surgery 8 weeks apart......ending in a mastectomy as like you further cancer was found which hadnt been found on the scans
The waiting is the worst, my anxiety was so bad. I tried to focus on the end goal of being cancer free but it's still a lot to go through.
I hope you have plenty of support. Best wishes for a speedy recovery x
