Hi all ,
I have been diagnosed with mixed lobular invasive breast cancer . ER positive . Grade 2 and an MRI has sized tbe tumour as 3 cm.
I am having therapeutic mammoplasty in two weeks and Hope this isn’t a silly question !
I am 34 G and the surgery will reduce me to around a 34C on one side . How will this work afterwards with post surgery bras.
I am expecting radiotherapy and another operation in 6 months time to give me some symmetry .
Has anyone had this treatment ? I know getting rid of the cancer us the main thing but worried about coping with the surgery and his I will feel afterwards .
Thank you in advance .
Hi,I had therapeutic mammoplasty in June, and full lymph node removal.my breast is quite a bit smaller, but has healed really well.i wore post surgery bras from Asda which were extremely comfortable. I'm now wearing m and s soft bras.
I'm on my 3rd week of radiotherapy, starting tomorrow, can't believe my treatment is nearly at the end
Sure you'll do amazing, us women are made of strong stuff
Thank you so much for the encouragement . I hope you are managing the radiotherapy and are not too sore.
I hope you don’t me asking but do you need to use a prosthesis if you are very much smaller post surgery ?
Hi, sorry to hear you are going through all this.
I had a thereputic mammaplasty, for me this was surgery to remove a large tumor & as so much breast tissue had to be removed, it was a lot smaller. At the same time I had a breast reduction on the other side to match, so they were balanced, but overall smaller.
I did end up with 3 drains, one for each breast & one for the axillia area as node removal so quite a bit to deal with post surgery
Hope this helps, best wishes x
Thank you for the reply kitty . My surgeon has said he won’t do a reduction on the other side for 6 months post radiotherapy. I will be very out of balance for a few months and this is a worry . I’m glad it will be winter and I can wear baggy tops !
best wishes .
I've found wearing soft padded bras ,in my normal bra size helps to even out my smaller boob under loose tops, not too noticeable ,but I don't wear close fitting tops.im probably 2cup sizes smaller.surgeon wants to see me in 6 months to talk about reducing my other boob.tbh think I'm happy staying as I am
Hello Jerseygirl, Guess you have another surgery a little later on but should be a positive step to get both breasts even. I think surgeon wants to wait until 6 months after radiation as radiation can cause some breasts to get smaller. I think that it is wise as will give you a chance to get stronger and get ready for the operation. Take care.

Hi Barbara,
The surgeon did say that about radiotherapy and he also said if the first surgery doesn’t give clear margins , I would need a second op on the same breast. I think he wants to wait until the first breast is settled and then get a god match . I understand but I’m worried because having a G cup on one side and a predicted C on the other seems such a difference . I like the surgeon and do trust him though so know he is doing the best for me .
I think things a further complicated because I had breast cancer 13 years ago on the other side and after radiotherapy there is a lot of scarring . He has warned me that this breast may not heal after the surgery so easily , when he does the reduction .
So much to think about ! Thank you for such a lovely reply Barbara.
Hi ,
Thank you and that’s reassuring . I’m going to be a C cup after the op and a G on the other , so will need some sort of padding I think .
That’s great that you are happy as you are and won’t need another op . Gives me hope .
Hi Jerseygirl, Having breast cancer again has to be tough for sure. Radiation can cause scarring but hopefully you will heal up really well. I had bilateral lumpectomies done and radiation to both of my little breasts. Only a 34A. No matter what size we are there are so many challenges. I really do believe your surgeon is being careful and doing the right thing for you.
Might feel a little different being a different size on each breast but it is good to know that you have a surgical procedure to help balance you out.
Take care
