Hi, Since diagnosed with breast cancer in Feb this year, been through many appts, tests, biopsies etc & was fine with it all but now I'm very nervous as mastecomy for right breast is next week. My lovely companion dog has dementia & going through changes too is sensing something is amiss. Finding it difficult coping with both but getting there. I'm up & down with trying to keep both feet on ground whilst emotions kick in! xx

  • This is certainly a rollercoaster ride. Once you have had your mastectomy you will feel you are on your way to getting rid of this and once results back you will have a plan to move forward. I was expecting op then radiotherapy but after results chemo was thrown in the mix which I really dreaded. Maybe you won't need all this treatment but if you do you will get through it just as I have. I never thought I could do it but it is a positive response to stop the return of the cancer.

Emotions run wild and so much information to take on board bless you. My advice will be stay on this forum it is so helpful and much better than Google as data on there is not always correct.

I had my right breast removed in November last year been through chemo and radiotherapy and now feeling stronger. I am preparing for my first mamagram which I am anxious about but guess that a what if that will always be there and I have to learn to live with.

Remember to take care of yourself and love to your dog too x

  • Hi there, I know we’re all different but I hope it helps you for me to say that I actually found the masectomy itself the easiest part of this rollercoaster ride so far (once I’d got my head around it). Sending you best wishes for next week and a big virtual hug Mickey x

  • I had a mastectomy in June, 8 weeks after initial breast conserving surgery, it was such a difficult time emotionally, you will feel very up & down. I tried to come to terms with it by telling myself that it is what was required to have the best chance of being cancer free.

Don't be hard on yourself, you are going through a lot, especially with your dog being unwell too.

I hope all goes well & you recover well. Best wishes x
