Hi feeling very anxious today , this will be my first appointment for radio , don't know really what to expect and how I will feel afterwards but have been told its nowhere near as bad as chemo , which the last 3 cycle I had I found hard .
hi, I was anxious as well, by the time you have done it a few times you'll get used to the routine. you basically lie on a bed get positioned by the lovely radiographers, and the big machine does its stuff and revolves round you, stopping and starting, you just have to keep really still. I struggled to get up from the bed as I have a bad back, but there is a long ropey thing you can pull yourself up with. the longest appt I have had is 15 mins. I get them to just check my skin when I lie down and all seems OK so far . mind you I have 11 of 15 to go x you'll be fine it's nothing like chemo.
Please don’t be anxious as it’s very easy. Just listen to the radiotherapy radiographers and take their advice and you will be fine.
You won’t see or feel anything during your treatment and you will just hear a beeping noise when the machine is on. The rads have to leave the room for your treatment but they can see you and hear you at all times.
The main side effects are tiredness and a pinkening of the skin
If you have anything you are particularly anxious about feel free to ask me as I was a radiotherapy radiographer for 35 years so can maybe put your mind to rest.
