Just over a week ago I had my 4th round of chemo, changed over from fec to doc and thought it was maybe going to be slightly kinder to me, how wrong I was, the tiredness was expected but I also started with awful pains in my legs, knees and arms, no sleep either due to increase in steroids before chemo session then my mouth, jaw, teeth became really painful to touch, I’ve rode my other treatments out but this really got to me, I actually broke down and cried, thinking I can’t do 2 more of these, I called the team up and was prescribed stronger pain relief which helped but left mr feeling even more tired I’m usually up and about by now but not this time, still laid about feeling rubbish, supposed to be going away in a couple of days, for a break before round 5, just hope I’ve got the energy , sorry this is a negative post but wondered if anyone had suffered liked this, take care x

  • Totally relate to this. Had the most horrendous pains in my legs and had to get stronger pain killers from the Doctor,  I had one chemo left to do and because I knew how bad I would feel afterwards, I did want to do it, but forced myself. Never will forget how bad I felt

  • Sorry you had to go through this as well, because it’s taking longer to have my normal days the bad days will come around quicker, but like you say we’ve got to do this and cannot wait till it’s just an awful memory, take care xxx

  • I found doc much worse than EC. I could barely get off the sofa for 10 days for my first round. The oncologist thought that was too much and reduced my dosage for the final 2 cycles. It was still worse the EC but more manageable than that first time.

Starting Paracetemol before the pains started helped. But I was very breathless, muscles felt like jelly and I was generally much weaker.

On the plus side, I didn't have the nausea I had from EC,  though everything tasted horrible.

Infound the side effects kept coming too. With EC,  the worst days were at the beginning and then you'd gradually get better. But with doc, I had new side effects appearing after 10 days, 2 weeks... It wasn't much fun.

But you've only got 2 to go. You'll be through them in no time and on the road to recovery.

  • Thank you, everything you said is mirror like! On the EC I knew when the the worst was over and could enjoy my good days before next round, hopefully I can prepare myself for the next 2 rounds, will speak to my consultant as well, we always try to get away for a couple of days on my good days but this time time I’m gonna have to take it steady as still feel out of sorts but hopefully sea air might do me good, thanks again for taking the time to reply and best wishes to you xxxx

  • So sorry you’re having it so tough. I found docetaxol easier than EC, but it seems you can go either way. A lot of American women are told to take loratadine antihistamine twice a day after docetaxol, and I did that and thought it helped with the bony pain. I found that the usual side effects I got from the filgrastim injections came on earlier with docetaxol. The side effects did get less for me with each cycle, I had 4, bad diarrhoea first cycle, but okay after that. So it may get less for your next two. Heat pads on the sore areas can help, and some ladies suggest a warm bath with Epsom salts in it. Stay strong, Eileen x x

  • Thank you so much for your reply and advice, will try the antihistamines, it was like a double whammy once I started on the injections, I’ve never experienced pain in my legs & knees like that!  Today I actually feel ok and looking forward to a few days away before my 5th round and to think il walk out with my 6th and final appointment! What a feeling that will be, will update how next round goes , thanks again & take care xxxx

  • Quick update, saw chemo nurse today and told him how horrendous I was last session, my bloods were low so given iron tablets and white cells had dropped slightly but because I’m nearing the end of my treatment he was  happy for me to still have my 5th session tomorrow but is reducing it by 20% and reducing injections from 5 to 3 so fingers crossed it won’t be as harsh but will have to wait & see, will be a lovely feeling tomorrow walking out with my last appointment date & time, let’s all keep going and the end will be there was all of us wonderful, strong ladies xxxxx
