Hi i am after some advice I had a mastectomy of my right breast and DIEP flap using my tummy reconstruction done on 11th August, my new reconstructed breast is much bigger than my other breast I assume due to bruising and swelling etc has anyone been through this procedure and can give me some realistic time lines for healing and when swelling will go down etc
Hi onco11 yes I'm doing ok now but for me unfortunately they didn't tacked together they should of done so I had open wounds since but they have started to heal now it just take time. I have to dress them every day but they are improving and the surgeon very happy .I had 2 drains in 1 at either side these were taken out before I came home. There were no issues there I now have cancer in my lymn nodes I am going today to see oncologist about starting chemo then more surgery unfortunately I am one of the unlucky ones. But I feel fine and going to get through this. You will be fine good luck with everything
Hi yes I have not had any lumps or anything apart from my healing they have done a great job I would just say to keep an on it if any doubt ring your breast nurse up good luck on your recovery you doing really well
Spider thanks for your reply also I was sorry to hear your reply to onco11 about it spreading to your lymph nodes and you having to have chemo or possible lymph removal I had 8 rounds of chemo which killed the tumour and the cancer that had spread to my lymph nodes I only had residue cancer cells left I opted for diep and mastectomy and complete lympth removal in my right arm pit at the same time as the mastectomy apart from some swelling it seems to be healing well, good luck with your future treatments and healing you’ve got this xxx
Thank you cockerpoomummy hope you get on the mend now. I found out yesterday i am having 6 rounds of chemo i am very scared about this but i got to fight it. its grade 2 lymph nodes hopfully this will do the trick and then i have to have my lymph nodes out ,good luck to you xx
Hi Spider Chemo can seem very scary like I said before I had 8 rounds the actual treatment isn’t the bad bit really you just sit there for 3-4 hours I used to read, listen to music etc the time goes quicker than you think for me the worst part was the side effects my hair fell out 2 weeks after my first session that was hard I’m not going to lie but I’m 2 months out iof chemo now and it’s growing back thick and fast, I personally was very tired and felt sick they give you anti sickness tablets to take and I also had bad upset tummy which they give you medication for, another unexpected thing was a metallic taste which made things taste different it wasn’t my best ever experience and I wouldn’t like to go through it again but I survived it and it did it’s job it got rid of my lump completely so all in all a good result, good luck with it you wil get through it xxx
