Hi, I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer last November. I’ve had chemo and a mastectomy, got radiotherapy to come. I’ve had my first phesgo injection and feel like I’ve had chemo all over again!! Has anyone had phesgo injections and if so any side effects?

  • Yes I’ve been having the injections. I have found that the longer the nurse takes it give it, as slowly as possible the better the side effects. I get a very sore leg and some minor aches and pains, for me, it’s no where near as tough as chemo and on a ‘good’ injection I get almost no side effects. I’m really sorry it’s affecting you so badly, we can all be so different, I do hope it gets easier. I know this is probably a silly thing to suggest but could you have an unrelated illness that is exacerbating it, covid or something? X

  • Thanks for replying Anna. Two weeks before I had the injection I was feeling shivery and sore throat but I had paracetamol and it had all cleared up. I’ve been doing regular covid tests which have been negative thankfully. I’m really hoping these symptoms are not to do with phesgo as still got 15 more to go. I’ve read that many people are saying they have been fine with them, apart from a sore leg. Seeing my oncologist tomorrow so hopefully will get some more advice.

  • Hi I didn’t have phesgo but did get Herceptin x 18 I was told to ask for drug phial and warm it up between hands before injection also rub thigh area . Then as previously said the slower the better when nurse injecting . Tell her if it hurting to much and she should slow down . They used to say a good five minutes to inject . The only SE I got we’re feeling a bit fluey for a few days .
Hope it gets better for you

  • Definitely raise it, I had the first few doses administered IV alongside docetaxel and then switched to phesgo, I’ve had about 10 injections and only 2 more to go! I never thought I’d say it!!! Been a bloody long year. I hope it gets easier x

  • Thanks Margaret, yes that’s how I feel, sore throat, runny nose, tiredness/fatigue, sore mouth that kind of stuff. My leg only felt a little sore for a day but I will ask the nurse to administer it more slowly to see if that makes a difference. Thank you

  • Lucky your nearing the end of the injections! I can’t wait to get to that stage. Just hoping I don’t get any of these SE again, I could cope with a slight sore leg but not all this and more fatigue as it’s exhausting. X

  • Margaret when you say you felt fluey what symptoms did you have please? X

  • Hi ..Fatigue ,achy , headache  dry throat and eyes have to say at the time didn’t feel too bad because I started them three weeks after final chemo so continued with three weekly cycle . Had been on EC X 6 which proved very cumulative with SE so Herceptin felt not too bad x

  • Thanks Margaret. I had phesgo x 2 with chemo first then changed to EC x 4 due to SE. So the rest of phesgo will be via injection.  It is draining but trying to stay positive! X
