Hi

Has anyone had the above test and does this usually result in chemo being required?

  • Hi I had this test and my score was 34 and I was told by the bcn the cut off number was 25 so I knew I would need chemo because I was at a high risk of occurrence....had last chemo cycle july 21st , and on 29th August I will be having 4 weeks of radiotherapy....I wish you all the very best and good luck with everything

  • Hi Alexa, I had this test last year and I scored 25 therefore I didn’t have chemotherapy thankfully

  • Good evening, hope you  are well? I have  just been reading this thread, my mum was recently  diagnosed with stage 1a  grade 2 HER2 positive breast cancer. She had successful lumpectomy  with clear margins and 13mm cancer removed with all lymph  nodes clear.  We have just had her first meeting with oncologist  who recommend chemo, trastuzumab and radiotherapy.  The oncologist  didn't once mention the Oncotype DX test  surely she hasn't made this decision  on judgment  alone ?

  • Hi

As your mum is HER2+ your mum has been recommended trastuzumab (herceptin) , and this is only available alongside chemotherapy. The oncoptype test is for women who are just ER or PR + , so your mum doesn’t fall into that category so won’t be offered the test. Your mums treatment plan is the standard one for your mums breast cancer, HER2+. There are many different types of breast cancer, so it maybe that it sometimes looks like your mum may be missing out/ being over treated, but the oncologists will give your mum the very best possible plan for her.

Hope everything goes okay for your mum

    Jo x

  • I had  my result it was 20 and I believe of the score is 25 and over chemo is possible. In saying that I am still being referred to oncology after I was told that I wouldn’t be getting it after a phone call with the breast nurse so I am fretting about this. Xx

  • Hi Hennie

I saw the oncologist this morning inga - I’m waiting for my Oncotype test results but he doesn’t think I’ll need chemo. However I will need radiotherapy… that’s probably why you are being referred. I was told that radiotherapy is standard following a lumpectomy. Xx

  • Hi Hennie, I was referred to the oncologist too. My score was 25. I didn’t need chemo, he started me on Letrozole and 5 days of radiotherapy. So try not to worry

  • Hi Eirian

how have you been on Letrozole …. I am due to take it once I get my prescription? X

  • TBH I’ve been fine other that the hot flushes and a few achy joints but thats because I’m 56! I take them at night which works for me.
