Can someone help me understand my appointment report?

Hi, I received yesterday a letter with a copy of the report sent by my surgeon to my GP.

I was surprised to receive this letter, and am more concerned and anxious now.

The report says:

Imaging: Bilateral mammogram M3, Bilateral ultrasound U4, Left axillary ultrasound N4

-right breast with m cysts. U2

-left breast with m cysts but in addition, a 2.9 cm circumscribed but slightly irregular solid mass (U4)

-Left axillary ultrasound shows several slightly suspicious nodes and a single node with a cortex of 5 mm (N4)

I had multiple samples taken for biopsy, but I was kinda reassured by the surgeon that clinically she didn't suspect cancer, although the radiologist was more concerned, hence testing.

I'm so worried now. I'm still in pain from the node biopsy, and on top of everything I have to go back to the hospital this Saturday because they forgot to take an image of the marker on the biopsy site. I'm not looking forward to b smashed again.

Thanks for your help and support.

  • Hi there, there is a person on this forum called X-ray girl who may be able to shed some light for you. I believe she worked as a radiologist. Good luck xx

  • Hi

I think DS38 may be talking about me. I was a radiotherapy radiographer so not involved in diagnosis but I think I can help you a bit.

You said that the radiologist had concerns about the your investigations hence the biopsy. The letter is dr speak for those concerns. Results from Investigations M ( mammogram) And U (ultrasound) are graded 1 to 5

So right Breast Ultrasound level 2 benign

Left breast solid mass ultrasound level 4 suspicious of malignancy which is why you had the biopsy to find out for sure.

Only the biopsy results will tell you what you are dealing with and the way forward. Please try to stay positive. Breast cancer is curable. It might feel daunting and scary and we have all had that feeling at some point in our journey.

We are all here for you and I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well for you

  • Thank you, Exraygirl for explaining.

It certainly feels like a lot to take in.

I'm trying to stay positive and hoping time goes by quickly for my results.
