I was diagnosed with hert 2 positive , grade 2 , breast cancer .
I was given 5 rounds of doxcetaxol, carboplatin and Herceptin ( couldn’t have 6 due to toxins . Unfortunately chemo only shrank tumour by 50%,
I then had surgery and tumour was removed with clear margins and 16 lymph nodes removed and only one infected .
Anyway I was taken off Herceptin and put onto Kadcyla , I have had 6 so far and everytime I have had it I have ended up at the hospital with low blood platelets and liver function results going high . My treatment has been reduced but again ended up there again , anyway my question is has anyone else either been taken off Kadcyla or asked to be ( I’m getting so down now with it all ) and how many actually make a difference .
Hi so sorry your feeling like this on kadcyla and affecting your bloods. I too was on this treatment and finished it in June this year, managed them all which I’m glad I was able to. My kadcyla was reduced once which was more manageable. Reduced as I had horrible neuropathy. A friend of mine had to stop her kadcyla around the 10th cycle as affecting her bloods too much and back onto herceptin. She was told she done well and the amount cycles she had was fine.
I actually did think about giving it up sometimes as hated going for it. Your oncologist or breast nurse will advise you best on your thoughts but don’t at all feel you have failed if you decide to stop it, they can put you on herceptin again. They will monitor your bloods closely. Take care & best wishes xx
I’ve had 6 Herceptin , then onto Kadcyla and have had 6 of those but I’m worried I haven’t done enough on the Kadcyla and if stop it and go onto Herceptin I’ve messed up my chances but everytime I have treatment I end up at hospital and I’m single parent , everytime I’m due to have it I have a massive panic and make myself ill .
Oh Dawnlou ! So that’s excellent you’ve had 12 of herceptin in total! All of this helps you attack this disease and help reduce recuurance. Your doing so well going through it. However I can only encourage you, try and reassure you but you need to hear the advice from your health care team. You will soon be finished with it and go on to next chapter of moving forward. Much love to you. Ask for something to help you relax and get through what you still have to get x
