Hello all , had me second chemo on Monday doing ok ups and downs feeling sick and very achey day 4 and 5 after first treatment , just woundering how long will it be know till my hair starts to fall out as thinking off getting it cut shorter .

  • Hi, by my second infusion, my hair was falling out fast. I had cut it much shorter (no more that 1cm all over) so it wasn’t so bad. But looking back, I wish I’d had it shaved, but that’s just me. X

  • I'm 3 in after my second fusion no hair lose as yet , after me saying this it will start to fall out tomorrow , I had ot cut short the other month but know I now its getting closer to falling out thinking off getting it shaved .

  • Hi Jue22

I think that's a good idea. It depends what chemo you are having. I had first FEC on Dec13th 21. I just managed to hang on to hair over Christmas and New year's Day I braved the shave as was gettingRolling eyesthe mad professor lookRolling eyesJoy

It is now coming back but be a while before I have a Bob again. Given up on wig in this heat I am what I am is my attitude. Get a few stares but just smile Thumbsup

Hope all goes well on your journey x

  • Iv had my second infusion off Paclitaxel so really not sure how long it will be before my hair starts to fall out , think my mind is over thinking that  I'm not goung to loose my hair or is that just wishful thinking

  • I lost mine between 2nd and 3rd cycle! Eyelashes stayed for quite a while used fine false lashes. Hair loss was more devastating at the thought of it to be honest. Ex hairdresser but really was not too bad. A bit chilly but wore beeny hats . Now a couple of months after final cycle am hatless with a crop!  It's frightening but I just took it down to a number2 with clippers. Good luck and try not to worry I'm sure you too will be a stunner!

  • Hi there, I started to loose a lot of hair after my 1st dose of Docetaxel. I was devastated and decided to ask my  hairdresser to shave it off. Instead my hairdresser cut it into a pixie cut which everyone says makes me look younger. I think by doing this it has made me feel better as my family and myself are getting used to me with short hair, always previously had it long. I know it will eventually all fall out and I have a wig and baseball caps to wear for when it does.

    Wishing you well

    Maxine

  • It’s a gradual process but having quite fine hair to start with I had it cut off after the 2nd EC treatment when I found falling out in clumps quite upsetting. However everyone is different and I guess the thicker your hair is, the longer it might take to fall out  completely. I was advised by the specialist wig shop not to have it shaved due to risk of infection from ingrowing hair. I finished chemo at the end of April and it’s now growing back fairly quickly. I have ditched the wigs due to the heat but tend to wear caps when outside although I am slowly finding the confidence to show what hair I have. It’s been a journey but it seemed to pass quickly although it took me a while to used to my baldness. I found focussing more on my skin care and using a bit more make up during the day helped me,

  • That’s I interesting regarding In growing hair. Never remotely thought of that possibility. It’s good to know. Thanks x

  • Hi sorry I can’t help with what/ when as I’m still waiting treatment plan. However have thought IF it’s gonna go it’s goons go with a BANG. Had cut shortish jus above ear today and plan with help of my sister and friend to go all out and do “mad colours” have decided on turquoise perhaps with bit of purple. When and if it becomes patchy then will get it buzzed. Might speak to BC nurse 1st  given what queen poppy mentioned about ingrown hairs.
