Hi
I was diagnosed with invasive ductal breast cancer in Jan 2022 and started chemo in March. I'm at week 11 of 12 paclitaxel and due to start EC x 4 in 2 weeks. The side effects so far have been not too bad and manageable. But my weight is going up and up. The nurses keep telling me that it's due to steriods but I also know its down to a complete change in my lifestyle since diagnosis as I've been signed off work. The nurses keep telling me not to worry about my weight gain and I'm not worried about it due to looks, but I'm constantly feeling bloated and uncomfortable. With the hotter weather coming I'm even more aware of it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to either loose a bit of weight or just feel more comfotable especially knowing im about about to start EC??
M xx
Hi Matilda I too have gained weight and nothing I seem to do helps me lose anything so i5 looks like I’ll just have to wait till treatments over I’ve had 3 x EC about to have Docetaxal and Herceptin x 3. I’m the heaviest that I’ve ever been I don’t think it helps when your hormones are unbalanced with all the meds being given. Sorry I can’t help, hope your treatment is going well xx
I gained over a stone from the start of chemo in October last year to treatment ending in February. I've always kept my weight fairly stable and have exercised all of my adult life so this was disconcerting for me. I did eat whatever I fancied though through chemo.
Ive managed to lose 9lb so far, but it's taken me weeks ( we did have a 10 day holiday during this time plus a few meals out) to lose it. I'd like to lose another 10-14lb if I can before our holiday to Kos in late August.
Im now back at work full time and struggling to get to the gym as often as so tired when I get home. Hoping this improves and I feel more energised as I adapt to working fulltime.
I really wouldn't worry about your weight gain, chemo is tough and your body needs energy. It will come off once treatment is over.
Thanks Jacala Well done on starting to pose the weight, hopefully your beginning feel a little more like yourself especially getting back to work helps with the routine of life. I can only imagine that the fatigue is abit of a constant battle though fingers crossed that it starts to become less debilitating for you. Xx
