Just wondering if I can ask this lovely group for advice on dry mouth due to oestrogen depletion. Has anyone tried artificial saliva? Are there different brands? Are there any other solutions/ top tips to deal with this? Thank you.
Hi Zephyr, I have had this condition for quite a while (nothing to do with BC or Letrozole which I am currently taking). My dentist, who spotted this, recommended drinking lots and chewing gum (sugar free of course). I don't chew gum, but do drink quite a bit, especially with food. Water is preferred, but I mix it up with different teas and occasional coffee as well. Have learned to always carry a bottle of water around with me, especially when its hot and find a small breath freshener spray useful as well. Haven't tried artificial saliva and the general consensus on that is not to waste your money on it. Good oral hygiene also helps and if its really causing problems for you, speak to your dentist. They can help with higher fluoride content toothpaste if the dryness is causing tooth/gum issues. I don't find mouthwashes helpful - find the high alcohol content is drying, so I keep away from these. I have tried Biofilm's strip products, but as my mouth is so dry, the film just sticks to my palette, which is horrible. Think they would work well if you do produce some saliva. Generally, lots of water is best solution (and cheapest)!
