Good news...but still waiting for other test results

I'm 58....Diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.....a type of Cancer 80% of women are diagnosed with when they have a breast cancer diagnosis.

The good news:  I had 3 lymph nodes biopsied.....Went to talk to the Surgeon today.....The lymph nodes do not contain cancer.

The other news:  The tissue from those lymph nodes are still being tested because of the "weirdness" with them....(not correct medical language...LOL)......

They are STILL being tested for "Lymphoma" and the tumor tissue they still have from my tumor biopsy is STILL under evaluation for ONCOTYPE which determines if I will need chemotherapy in addition to radiation (at first I was told I would only be having radiation).

The Surgeon told me that if the Oncotype comes back with a score of 25 or above I will need chemo.

I asked ...how much CHEMO?  Alot? Will I lose my HAIR?

She said...Uh...yes, if you have chemo, it will be enough to lose your hair...but for me not to jump ahead to that until we know...EASY FOR HER TO SAY......

My surgery will be in June...they have 60 days after the first biopsy that finds cancer to schedule the surgery.  The Nurse I spoke to afterwards told me she will call me by the end of the week with the Surgery date.

During the surgery they will remove the Senital node and the one lymph node that is questionable to test it further.

My thoughts:  If it wasn't in my lymph nodes they tested, than I would think it is not in the Senital node.....but I'm not a Dr....so I have to leave this in their hands....and keep my positive thinking on track.

ME: First thing I think of....Well, Surgery is not till JUNE....so I can have some drinks today IF I WANT TO - I am really a CRAZY PERSON to think this way, but I am also an alcoholic.....so it is natural for me to think this way.

  • Hi missy

I'm a little confused now....but I do believe she said we are waiting for 2 results...lymphoma and oncotype.....so i think they are going to figure that out with whatever tissues they have....

I told her I have a headache from checking the databases all day yesterday ...she said she was checking it as well to prepare for my apt. today....so she ran down to the pathology lab to see if they had ANYTHING.

When she came back she said Good news...not in lymph nodes we biopsied but onco type and lymphoma results are still pending.

I know you are getting results tomorrow....I remembered because they are so close to my appt.

Looking forward to good results from you.......I have a GOOD feeling for you....because mine was graded 2 from the start....I see both of yours they graded 1.....and if I didn't have travel to the lymphs....I want to assume you didn't either...with the lower grade.

said the UK has access to results....Have you checked there?

  • Hi we do have an app but my medical results aren’t in there. I think we have to register for that information.  Not sure. Also not sure if they are uploaded straight away. But will need to check this out x

im hoping that the low grade hasn’t spread but it doesn’t mean it can’t. As I think there are cells that can  travel from the initial area to the lymph nodes. They didn’t find anything in ultra sound but they can’t be sure until biopsied.
total prayers for tomorrow Pray x

Exactly, because even thou my Surgeon told me there was no cancer in my lymph nodes they are still taking the one out that they said "no cancer" to double check.....

And I do understand...they really don't know until the surgery and pathology is completed...but, I have a good feeling for you...and I will pray tonight during my nightly prayer session...even thou I don't know you....

You people here....mean something to me....new friends....people that understand what this is like......so YES...fingers crossed and prayers for tomorrow.

I had to take calming medicine before my appointment so I think I may be familiar with how you are feeling tonight.

I'm a control freak..its so hard to not know....and once you know...you seem strong and you can deal with it.

    Best wishes for tomorrow..XO
