Dear All.
I wonder if anybody could advise me if there is predominately a better brand of the above medication. It seems depending on the manufacture it makes a difference to the side effects.
unfortunately I have thinning of the bones and feel so fatigued on anastrozole they have decided to change me. I’m very dubious to start something else and would appreciate any feedback?

Kindest regards

  • Hi Wajdi. I am interested to hear any other feedback on this too. I started Tamoxifen on 21 Feb. I'm on my 3rd prescription and so far I've been given 3 different brands. I've had Milpharm, Wockhardt and now Mylan. How many are there!?? I haven't noticed much difference to be honest, but each time I get given a new brand it is a worry in case i get new side effects. I've been taking mine at 9pm everyday and that seems to work for me. I hope you go ok with it too. Best wishes x

  • Hi and

I can't answer which is best, but if you look at this link and then research active ingredients of each manufacturer, you'll find the coatings will be different.  Experimenting with each tablet with different coatings will be the best way to tell which is the best 'for you'.  I'm presuming Wajdi that you were given VIT.D and Calcium to counteract the side effects of the anastrozole on your bones?

I was on Anastrozole and having been given a different tablet once, I can 100% say that the coatings make an enormous difference!  I only accept Accord and TEVA based on horrendous side effects I got from one brand I was given.

I would always recommend trying and giving it a go and then experimenting until you find the best one for you.  I nearly didn't take my tablets because I'd read so many horror stories but I decided to try it - this year will be year 5 for me with my last annual mammogram being in a few days time.  I'm so glad I gave them a go as who knows what would have happened if I hadn't.

Best wishes to the both of you, Lesley

  • Hi Pangles thanks so much for your response. I will let you know what I manage to find out.

  • Thanks so much for your information and well done for preserving fir 5 years, that’s such an achievement. I find the fatigue above all so hard to cope with. Did you suffer fatigue? The brand I currently take is accord. Apparently tamoxifen does not thin the bones like anastrozole hence the change.
best of luck and once again thank you

  • Also hope your mammogram goes well xxx

  • Hi  I’ve been on Tamoxifen for just over two weeks now so early days still, brand is RelonChem. I take them in the evening about 7.30pm  had horrendous headache first few days and then that eased since then struggling with some insomnia, night sweats and leg/joint pain. Some nights are awful and I am in so much pain. Generally I am sluggish first thing and perk up around lunchtime thank goodness I’m not at work at the moment. To be honest as I’m still early days I don’t know if what I’m experiencing is mild side effects or whether I should be looking to change brands? Would also appreciate hearing others advice thanks for highlighting this in the first place. Take care and hope it helps.
    best wishes xx

  • so far I have had milpharm and tillomed. So far there is little difference between them. I take them in the morning. I get night sweats and the occasional flush in the day. I am still tired from chemo and radiotherapy so am not sure tamoxifen is adding to that. So far it has been fine.

  • I was prescribed tamoxifen today after a right mastectomy, so this thread is great- thank you all for sharing.
I’m nervous about the side effects. I haven’t slept properly since my diagnosis last December so if that gets worse I’m done for.  I’m waiting for the Oncotype test results to see if I need chemo so I’ll not be sleeping anyway so difficult to tell if it’s anxiety or side effects.

It looks like there is no best time to take it from what’s been said, just personal preference. Is that right?

To hear it gets better with time gives hope. Thank you all for the insights and advice. I’ll let you know how I get on Fingers crossedFingers crossed

  • I asked my GP for a sleeping tablet to take once a week, just to keep me sane! I just needed one good night to cope with the 6 rougher ones ahead.

I haven't found a better or worse time to take tamoxifen, it just has to be at a time of day which I will always remember which is why I take it as soon as I wake up. I hope you find tamoxifen OK too.

  • Good idea. I’ll ask for a sleeping tablet. Thx zephyr.
