We in the US have access to prior to our appointments....So I knew my diagnosis before I talked to the Dr today....
She confirmed: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I have an Ultrasound scheduled for this Thursday to see what lymph nodes they will take out along with the Lumpectomy.
I will have 2-3 weeks of Radiation. She is not suggesting chemo.
Here in the US ...All the "Cancer" Drs get together on Fridays to discuss their "tumor patients" and they request suggestions from their peers on if the treatment selected is the BEST for my Cancer.
Her idea is remove the lump, some lymph nodes and do radition and take a hormone pill since my Estrogen is very high and that feeds cancer.
Also, some pill for a little while to stop any Cancer spread throughout the body because of my concern with the "tumor seeding".
I only had 5 radiotherapy treatments and my skin was fine. It did look like a mild sunburn and then a couple of weeks later I had some peeling but it wasn't too bad at all.
Thank you Jacala!
The Dr. told me I am going to have 2-3 weeks of Radiation EVERYDAY...it will be decided Friday in the Drs meetings if it is 2 or 3 weeks.
UGH
I read your profile and I am going to be talking to my Oncologist about this Radiation stuff because I want to bring up I "know" someone who only had 5 sessions and I want to mimimize the # of sessions if we can.
I read you were Staged 2...I know they can't stage me until they do the lumpectomy and lymph node analysis but my Surgeon said she would 99% say that mine is Stage 1.....So I see you were Stage 2 and HER 2 Positive....
I know everyones treatment is different...but 2-3 weeks of Radiation seems like a LOT to me.
Everyone's treatment is different. I had no lymph node involvement, so not sure if that makes a difference.
Yes we talked about the lympth node involvement and it does make a difference. They will do the Ultrasound this weekt o see what node they will examin.
I had another concern I raised with her which could possibly be the reason she is doing what she is doing...2-3wks of radiation for what she thinks is a Stage 1....I will have to ask her ....about her thought process.
I've had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy and out of the 3 radiotherapy was the easiest. Chemo was hard.
Yes, I have had many friends on chemo and it was hard for them.
One of my friends..back 11 years ago or so when they did not have targeted therapy for Her2 Positive had a chemo machine in her home!
I was mortified...
She kept a good spirit thru the whole thing and unfortunetly died at 38 with a 5 year old boy she adopted from Russia (which was a 3 year process)
The boy now lives with the Dad a new wife and 3 brothers and sisters.
Cancer s*cks!
Hi Missy I had three weeks of radiotherapy 15 sessions in total I am fair skinned and not a problem at all no redness or peeling absolutely crossing my fingers that you will be the same very good luck. But make sure you ask all the questions that you want to. Secondary cancer now I don't let my oncology nurse or consultant get away with anything bet they love me !!!!!
