Is there anyone out there suffering like me with the awful restless leg syndrome? I have had it on and off since a teenager but my chemo last summer triggered an episode that has not stopped. I get an occasional night where sheer exhaustion knocks me out but most nights I have little or absolutely no sleep. I am typing this on my phone, in bed, listening to Bruce Springsteen as this is one of those sleepless nights that I have learnt to just give up on sleep. I can't go on like this. I am SO tired and feel I have no energy. I am suffering with bad side effects from letrozole and am struggling to cope. After the chemo and radiotherapy I thought things would improve but I honestly feel worse now than I did then. Any advice would be great. Thanks and hugs, xx
Hi yes I get this a lot! always have, noticed a couple of days ago getting it more recently, about a third of way through my treatment, I remember at my first oncologist meeting...the scary one...I had been asked what medication I am on and I mentioned I had been prescribed QUINNINE if I've spelt that right...for restless legs. Oncologist said it was fine to take occasionally and it really helps calm my running to nowhere legs, obviously you would need to ask if this is something that could be prescribed for you., I only take it at night on occasion when its really bad. May be worth asking? alternatively run round your garden in ever decreasing circles x
Hi Moggymad62
I suffer with this also ,a few years ago my doctor put me on Ferrous sulphate and this helps a lot with mine
they have told me I can still take it throughout treatment ,I would ask the GP or oncologist is there is something you could take
Hope this helps
Hi, I very often get restless legs in bed too, have done for years. A friend of mine who also suffers told me to try Magnesium Sleep body spray by Better You. It works for me ! It’s essential oils with camomile. They sell it in Holland & Barrett. I just spray a small amount on my legs thigh to ankle and massage in. It’s only a 100 ml bottle and I think about £10 but lasts for ages x
Thanx for replying to my cry for help. I will ask my GP. Have already tried all the true drug "solutions" so have only alternative things left to try. May I ask what cancer experience you have? Wishing you well, xx
Unfortunately my iron levels are absolutely normal which is I am struggling. Have tried 3 different prescribed drugs with no effect so I am now looking at alternative solutions. Did you find chemo aggrevated it? I am hoping that one of the other things folk have been kind enough to suggest may help. Fingers crossed! Wishing you well and thanks for your reply, xx
Thanx for the suggestion. I will certainly try it. Having tried 3 prescribed medications that had no effect I am desperate to find an alternative solution. Did you find that chemo aggrevated it? I'm sure it was the chemo that started mine and now I feel that it is the numbness in my feet that is the reason it's ongoing. I am constantly wiggling and flexing my toes to try and bring life back into them even tho I know that I can't. It's soooo frustrating!! Wishing you well, take care, xx
Thanx for your response to my post. Unfortunately my iron levels are absolutely normal so I know that low iron levels is not the cause of my restless legs. Will keep looking for something that helps. Maybe one of the other suggestions may be the miracle that I'm looking for. The sleep spray sounds interesting, maybe it might help you too. Wishing you well, take care, xx
Ive had restless legs for years but think worse as not been as active during covid and chemo x
Fingers crossed one of the other suggestions helps. I don’t start chemo for another few weeks so will see if it worsens. I’ve been anaemia on and off for years with pregnancies and being vegetarian and it often causes restless legs so I’m guessing I’ll get it again with chemo but will see. I’ll definitely try the other suggestions if it happens again. Good luck finding something to help x
