Hi ladies, I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy finished in October last year, now on letrozole and a dexa scan showed I now have osteoporosis. I just got a copy of the consultants letter which says that I have grade 2 micropapillary cancer and DCIS. I obviously didn’t take all that in at the follow up appointment! Have looked up what micropapillary means and now panicking a bit. Had clear margins though. Does anyone know what this means?

  • Hi

It sounds as though the letter related to your pre surgery condition.

i had encapsulated papillary carcinoma with dcis. After my surgery i had clear margins and no obvious signs of dcis but am having radiotherapy. I think this is just  in case there is any dcis kicking about.

I understand how worried you are. If you contact your breast care team they will be able to provide information and hopefully reassure you that all is well.

    Take care xx

  • Thank you, that explanation helps put my mind at rest. I haven’t been able to make contact with the breast care nurse locally despite several phone calls, but will keep trying.

  • I had micropapillary to. It’s I believe how it looks under the microscope and has micro papillary features which I panicked as it said it’s an escape root. I got told off by oncologist for googling who said it’s nothing to dwell on. The cancer is gone and my scans are clear. However I know exactly how u feel.

  • Thank you so much, that’s reassuring. I’d avoided googling anything until the other night - I have learned my lesson!

  • If they could just give us a reliable place to go to look up stuff in depth! For those of us who are chronic information gatherers haha. Anyway, I have micropapillary as well. Its more if you have lymphovascular involvement with it that they will keep a closer eye on it. Otherwise they treat it the same way as ordinary IDC.
