Hi there, I’m afraid that after my first EC yesterday the dreaded constipation has set in! Not something I’ve EVER had, so at a bit of a loss, I’ve eaten loads of fibre and vegetables so it must be the medication, steroids or chemo not sure. Does anyone know if I can take a natural laxative such as senna or lactulose solution? Thanks
Hi Mazz
I would add make sure you hydrate . Drinking plenty before and after EC it’s very dehydrating . I also used to make veg stock based soups like leek and potatoe so fibre and fluid up . Best of luck
Thanks Margaret, trying to drink plenty, but the broth seems like a good way to hydrate and get some fibre on board. My husband loves making soup (or broth as he calls it), so I’ll put that on his to do list xx
Ah, the joy. I had that too, sometimes going six days with the back door remaining firmly shut. In the end they prescribed some laxative, but I only used it very sparingly because of the warning on the pack about the body becoming dependant on the drug. I also used, on occasion, the suppositories.
Hello so sorry this is going on. I can totally understand, when i was going through ec i experienced this and took movicol to try and help only a few times and this helped. Hope it gets better soon.
